Perhaps, you can also catch the light obelisk there and bypass the damned elevator in the shrine (not sure, perhaps Anephas has to be awaken first but the game is so buggy that it could pass). Teleport away after exploiting the area.
I didn't face any Shrine on way to Leprechaun! Nor I didn't use vanish!
I just wander around the coast and get shore at one place and see L.
He just runs away ( not tried to fried that little fellow yet! )
There where also some war clerics or something and lots of raptors.

I found end of the forest area lake that leads into some building.
There where some guard like Gargoyle/Griffin... He asked password from me, didn't know and he killed my party. Was that Pyramid or what building?
Well not trying to go there yet, but I will catch that L.!
I can post you map from area where I found that Leprechaun if you want.

1. I meant something different by the L. area: the area where the Stone of Clover is. It's a closed area reachable through the shrine legally - and without going through the shrine using the Vanish spell
2. The area where you saw L. is the Enchanted Isle. The L. area is also in the isle but it is not reachable from the entrance to the isle.
3. The "some building" is the Anephas Shrine.
4. The "griffin" is the Mystic Sphinx (over 1 mil. of XP). How come it got you? You should get the sphinx - or answer the riddles correctly.

Oh How Mystic Sphinx got me? I just didn't know what to answer to him!
Well I even didn't fight for my whole heart, cause I knew that if I kill it threres might be possibility that I never get into 'some building'
that was Anephas Shrine..

I'm in Skull Castle now, pulling sove levelers and try to jump over those 'things' that moves by the chains when I pull levelers...
That's really hard!

I try to find that Shrine after finishing skull castle..
