I have a level 10 Archer, he is using a Composite Long Bow and Normal Arrows. He has 18 DEX.
Arrows does 1D6 damage C.Long Bow adds 1 damage Archer's bonuses add 3 damage( or is it +4?) Therotically, my maximum damage is 6 + 1 + 3 = 10 Damage How is it that I sometimes get 15 Damage? And never go below 9 damage? Where do the extra 4-5 damage come from? |

quote: does the game give you extra damage for specialization for missile weapons? I know PnP doesn't unless it's a point-blank shot..., but if it does, and you have ***** then you easily have the extra 4-5 damage

Doh! Forgot about that... ...
I have the Grandmaster Patch from Balderdash, how much extra damage do I get with ***** in Longbows? Also, what are my kit bonuses with a level 10 Archer? Is it +3 THACO, +3 Damage, or +4 THACO, +4 Damage? |

Arrows do 1-6 damage
Grandmastery in longbow gives +3 to damage Composite longbow gives +1 damage I think your strength makes a difference, but I'm not sure as a bow is a missile weapon. This is the only thing I can think of that would affect damage. |

Ah, I can help here. ***** in longbow using the grandmaster patch makes it equal to that of icewind dale and BG1. This gives you a whole extra attack per round and your damage increases by one with each slot, i.e. **=+2 damage, ***=+3 damage etc so you get +5 damage there. Strength *definately* does not affect any bow. The only missile weapons that include a strength bonus are throwing weapons such as axes and teh sling of seeking from Bernard in the Copper Cornet.
Dundee, you ask what bonuses a level 10 archer will have. These are: lvl 3=+1 lvl 6=+1 lvl 9=+1 So you'll have +3 to hit and damage according to the character kit. I myself am not convinced though as my archer seems to have a further +1 to hit after i've taken dex, weapon, ammo and kit bonuses into consideration so I think they gain +1 to hit and damage upon creating the character, and then recieve further bonuses every 3 levels. |

Legolas is here
You think I would not notice a thread with the word 'archer' in the title? Okay, The normal arrow does 1D6 damage The composite longbow gives you +1 to hit and +2 to damage Your Archer bonus is +3 to hit and +3 to damage Grand Mastery gives you +2 to hit and +3 to damage Your Dexterity gives you a +2 to hit but no bonus to damage So, that's a +7 to hit and a 1D6+8 damage. 1D6+8 results in damage from 1+8 to 6+8, or 9-14 And then you have the critical hits... There you go, no problem |

Very decent and detailed info Legolas but.......
He's using the Baldurlash grandmaster patch which gives +5 damage when grandmastery with a particular weapon. The latest BG2/ToB patch actually reduces the damage from a composite long bow to +1 Total damage should therefore be: 1D6 arrow 1 Composite long bow 3 archer kit 5 grandmastery =max 15 damage |
