There seems to be a lot of killings of American volunteers in the middle east, Nuns, nurses and just regular people there providing needed health and human services, Does anyone think tha the US should prohibit travel to the middle east to protect the saftey of the people? Think of all the people who will not receive medical aid or food, or clothes. I don't get it. It is like they are cutting off their nose to spite their faces.

MagiK, not to be flippant, but cutting off one's nose to spite one's face seems to be the regional sport of the Middle East. Why on earth an American would be there is a question that boggles my mind. I would not accept a free trip to see the Pyramids, with a weeks stay at Shepheard's Hotel and an open bar tab thrown in, right now.

Some people are so filled and ruled by hate that it truly warps their logic.
ex. I hate America. It is an evil country etc. There is an American in my town providing free health care and medicines. It helps my friends and neighbors. It is done by an American so it must be evil. Let's kill the American and stop his evil. An example closer to home. Abortion is murder. Let's kill the Doctor to stop the murder. |

Well the people we´re dealing with here are not rational. So why do we (as in our governments) assume they are going to act rationally? I wonder if Israel would remain if the Palestinians stopped their bomobings and killings.

There is Israelis Bulldozing our homes and summarily detaining our men and shooting children who throw stones. This makes us hate Israelis, Without America, Israel would not exist. Therefore we will attack Americans. Or even; America Has invaded Afghanistan and killed over 1000 civilians there This makes us hate America. Therefore we will attack Americans. Hate does warp their logic however, since the average American/Israeli has no more to do with Actions in the Middle East or anywhere else than a Chocolate Labrador does, Indeed some of them may even oppose such actions, But people always turn to extremist solutions in extreme times. |

It would be a lot more interesting to hear a point of view from someone in the middle of the conflict.
With the culture they have, they are not going to see things from our perspective. They only know that all their problems are exacerbated by the US. Because of that, anything we do is suspicious and we could have planted spies over there for all they know. So on the safe side, they are killing the Americans, because they don't know who to trust. Funny thing is, we don't trust them, either.

It's hard to organize all around protection for these people, after all, they're volunteers, some of em act on impulse. A person can decide to go there out of the blue, a lot of em are loners too and don't want the homefront to know where they are. There's no way you can protect these people, they are indeed easy victims. I just don't understand who would want to hurt people like that. Even Islamic extremists must admit that they are not an enemy. But obviously that's wishful thinking.
