My mage has reached his max level. He can't cast any level 9 spells or use level 9 scrolls.
Is this right. He can copy the scrolls to his mage book, but can't use the scrolls. |

The highest level you can reach in bg2 for a mage is L17 ,no spells above 8th level. You should be able to cast 9th level scrolls though if you can copy them maybe you are a specialist mage.

You weren't supposed to scribe those spells, but cast them in battle from the scroll. It's a one time only sort of deal.

Why then do they even bother to include 9th level mage spells in the game? It seems like they throw them in the game to piss us off. I think it's completely ridiculous.. same thing happened with BG1 and Icewind Dale.. I can understand it in those games because of the lower XP cap but BG2??

You got level 9 spells in IWD as well. It's to see who's paying attention to the manual or not I suppose.

Well, they wanted to leave you with a taste of what 9th level spells were like (hence, being able to cast them from the scroll), but wanted you to want for something more in BGIII or NWN. It's a popular tactic that many companies do. If I remember correctly, it was this way back when they had the gold box series of games too. You can cast the 9th level spells in BGII, just can get a high enough level to cast them from memory. If you install the experience point remover, then you can get to a high enough level to cast the spells. So if it's bothering you a lot, you can download that from http://www.teambg.com Just go to the player options (not developer) and you should find it there. It looks like there is a link to another page, so you will have to hunt down that page a little to find it. Totally worth it though.

Level nine spells are in the book to tell you what the bad guys are throwing at you.

Personally, I think they should've lowered the EP cap and made levelling up a lot harder in this game. Doesn't seem like there's a lot to look forward to in BG3 in that respect. How much EP did Firkraag give? Fully matured, a red dragon is still only supposed to give 24,000. I won't even talk about the 75,000 or somesuch for killing one lousy vampire (Bodhi).

Yes, I was also very suprised when I got 75.000 for killing Bohdi. She was pretty easy I think, a lot easier than Firkraag.

I think 75k exp can be justified by other than killing Bodhi you restored Imoen's soul. Btw I was expecting at least a tiny bit of dialogue from Imoen when we killed Bodhi. I mean we got her soul back! Duh!
