MM ok I believe a fighter starts out with 4 proficiencies and gets 1 every 3 levels, so a level 19 fighter would have 10 total slots.

4 to start, 5 at level 3, 6 at level 6, 7 at level 9, 8 at level 12, 9 at level 15, 10 at level 18.

Which kinda sucks, because a dual class character actually can have more proficiencies than a fighter can, I hate that! Its a Snaffoo I believe the staff forgot about when they were figuring out dual class characters. Once you dual class a character, your not suppose to get weapon proficiencies until you pass up your origional class, you don't get new ones once you dual class. You also don't get the ability to specialize past the specialized slot in your new class unless they are a fighter character, but they allow this.

For instance. I start a fighter and get to level 9. I have 7 proficiencies. I put 5 into the warhammer and 2 into sword and shield. I then switch over to a cleric. In Baldur's gate, I start to gain more proficiences, including extra ones at level 1 cleric. I can also put these into another slot (like maces) and raise that skill up to GM with enough slots.
Its not suppose to work that way. How its suppose to work is. If i get my fighter to level 9 and dual class to cleric, Im not suppose to start getting proficiencies again until I bypass my fighter level of 9. So at level 10 cleric i start to gain proficiencies again as a cleric. I can use my GM warhammer (since those proficiencies were done already) but I cant get any future weapons above specialized (2 slots) because im a cleric.
Fighters are suppose to have the most weapon proficiencies, but how Baldur's gate works out is that dual class fighters/etc get the most, not the fighters, and that isn't how its suppose to work. My level 19 Fighter has 10 proficiencies, while my level 6 fighter/20 cleric has 13 proficiencies. Totally wrong.
