if it's exactly like d&d (classes + races) i'm going what my character for my d&d group is.. Dwarven Cleric/Fighter (Male) ugh everyone in my group was human except 1 elf. he is our dm right now so the former dm is a gnone fighter/rouge. and since they were 2 barbs, 1 ninjas, and 1 fighter/rouge i had to be cleric or we wud be screwed. and i wanted to be "different" from the group and not "go w/ the in crowd" so I chose to be Dwarven even though my name is Elven...

Why is everbody going for multiclass? Surely you advance more quickly in single? I am going to be a plain old human paladin.

I've been thinking and thinking... and my suspicion is that, no matter how much I plan ahead and try to come up with the best possibility I'm probably going to end up playing something totally unexpected like a bard or fighter. Although all of my plans will EVENTUALLY come out (such as Wizard/Sorceror ) I tend to play something solid and powerful my first time just to get a feel for the game. I might go with paladin, they're easy for me to roleplay for some reason. Who knows. I'll probably continue to speculate until there's only one possibility I didn't even consider... and I'll probably end up playing that LOL

Whats wrong with regular elves? High, Gold, Moon and Forest?

I would like to be an CN Elven Mage. Not a stupid drow elf which is NOT a choice. You could just have a purple elf with gray hair but i find that foolhearty. Also...are there specialist mages? if so I may decide to be a necromancer but loosing illusion spells may be a problem for defences. But i suppose if everything is already dead that wont be a problem.

It's the fallout from the Driz'zt fad...everyone wants to be the drow that is special (or some people want to be the evil drow). Ever since the first novel drow have been the rage, personally I like the shorter but tougher dwarves...don't know why.

Careful before you multiclass,

NWN and 3rd ed work totally different than many of you are used to. First of all you are limited to a grand total of 20 levels of classes.

This is the Experience table.

1st 0
2nd 1,000
3rd 3,000
4th 6,000
5th 10,000
6th 15,000
7th 21,000
8th 28,000
9th 36,000
10th 45,000
11th 55,000
12th 66,000
13th 78,000
14th 91,000
15th 105,000
16th 120,000
17th 136,000
18th 153,000
19th 171,000
20th 190,000

Each time you gain an Overall level you can take a separate level in any Class with the exception of certain classes like Paladin and Monk which have special limitations.

Your character is considered the Overall level... Not the Level of your highest class + 2 like in 2nd ed.

Thus a 6/6 Fighter/Mage is considered at 12th level character and earns experience at that level on the EXP table. When he gains an Overall level he can advance one of his two classes.

He casts spells as if a level 6 Mage (6d6 fireballs) with the same spell selection a 6th level mage would have.

However each class also has hit points and what is called a Base Attack Bonus or BAB also special Bonuses to Saves. The BAB and Save Bonuses stack togather while multiclassing, but the spell effects do not.

Thus you can safely multi-class any melee class without ill effects. Multiclassing any spellcaster seriously depleats his effectiveness.

If you are going to Multi-class a Spellcaster its now recommended that you take uneven levels. Like a ratio of 3 to 1 mage to fighter or 2 to 1 so you dont lose the casting effectiveness but still get a better Base Attack bonus from the Mage table as well as his save bonuses.

Only Elves, Half Elves or Humans can do this as a Wizard.

Only Humans and Half Elves can do this with a Sorcerer.

Any other race must take the levels as an even split because any class which gets more than 1 level apart in their case causes a 10% earned experience penalty per class that is not within that range as a spellcaster.

The other races have other classes that they can advance unevenly with.. they are called a Favored Class.

With Humans and Half Elves their highest class is considered their favored Class.

Hit points for the total level of the Character are all added togather unlike in 2nd Ed where you only got 1/2 the hit points for each class. Thus you get 6d4 hit points for the 6 mage levels and 6d10 hit points for the fighter levels in a 6/6 split.

This may help you keep from making critical errors in class selection in NWN and 3rd ed D&D rules.

This also depends on the other class that you will multi with the spellcasting class. If you're going to do the fighter/mage thing then you can do it with a dwarf with no penalties. Or a rogue/mage can be a halfling with no penalties.

3ED has a lot more versatility than the previous versions did.
