People keep recommending I rest during the night. My logic tells me, and the manual, that there is no way to rest! Is there a way to rest or are these people full of it?

There is no "Rest" function. What they are probably suggesting, is that if your party is very weak, just cower the night away at the gates of the city. Just walk away for 20 mins or so, leave the computer running, and come back when it is light.

Davros's tip is also a splendid way to wait out the two days for the monk quest, should said almost-monk be low on HP, rather than wandering about waiting to be killed with your zero AC.
Find yourself a nice, secluded spot near the gates, turn settings down to easy everything, and leave for a couple hours |

Well, according to my observations, time at night passes very fast if you run around the countryside. I do this to earn xp, by the way.
