Supreme Court says Klan can join highway cleanup
The Kansas City Star
Published on January 11, 2003

For the second time in four years, the U.S. Supreme Court has cleared the way for the Ku Klux Klan to participate in Missouri's Adopt-A-Highway Program.
The high court on Monday [Jan.10] declined to hear the state's appeal of a lower court ruling siding with the Klan, meaning that picking up litter along Missouri 21 heading into Potosi can remain the responsibility of the Klan.

In 2001, the court did the same thing in a case relating to another stretch of highway in Missouri, I-55 south of St. Louis – now known as the Rosa Parks Memorial Highway in honor of the civil rights heroine.

"I hope it doesn't go any further," said Robert Herman, the St. Louis attorney representing the Klan. ...

Thomas Robb, executive director of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, called the decision a victory for free speech. "It means the state can't decide who's considered legitimate," Robb said.

All I know to say is "BOO"...the Supreme Court sucks...

This ruling is giving leniency and good publicity to one of the most feared groups in the US that base their lives on hatred of others not like themselves.

Just Boo, damnit...Boo.

I won't disagree with your assessment of the SCoUS, but for prehaps differant reasons. Nor will I disagree with your assesment of the KKK, for the reasons you sited.

As for the KKK and their abopt a Highway mile, I will say the same thing I told the elders of our church, when they wanted to have "girly magazines" removed from store shelves in town: In a free society if it is OK to ban/limit one thing, you must be prepared to have somebody else ban/limit you, and accept their ban/limits, politicly speaking. That is not making a moral judgement on the KKK, or their worthiness. If one wishes to be free one must also extend the same to others, no matter how reprehensable they are as long as they are legal.(Within the bounds of laws that apply to all)

Is there a special reason or something why KKK members aren't burnt alive on the spot or am I missing something?

Racism=bad people, the fact that a organisation in this day and age can talk about it openly and blah blah blah is sad AND stupid.

I'm surprised to say it myself, but I actually agree with you here, John D.

KKK are clowns, but they are clowns in a free society.

Nicely said, John D! Much as I dislike and disapprove of the KKK's agenda, if they want to pick up trash from the road, let them. So long as they don't hurt anyone or start any riots!

I didn't even know the KKK still existed..but if they want to pick up trash, more power to them.

Besides aren't we constantly hammered by the left that we should be more accepting of everyones rights?

(PS if you think Im ignoring your posts...Im just exceptionally busy at work for the time being...I will be back eventually)

Yes, they do still exist, unfortunately.
