Are they any use?

Or should I stick to bows for all my characters?

They are more powerful, but they don't fire as often - at the moment I'm preferring composite long bow even to a finest crossbow (+4 to hit!) because of the multifire.

Any opinions?

Are they good for their accuracy? Perhaps just for a bard or other such poor fighter?

There are bolts for the crossbows much more powerful than the arrows for bows, like some bolts that deal +30 damage in 15 seconds

. And there are some fine crossbows too, though they usually are slower.

Second best ranged weapon in the game is a crossbow... it'll put out more attacks per round than any other weapon in the game but one, that one being a longbow. I wouldn't go all crossbow. But it is worthwhile to have one guy go crossbow instead of bow.
