I'm telling you man, you need to look at Rick Volberding's site that I put on you other request for info on traits. Wyv did a great job of explaining what traits are, and there is LOTS of info at Rick's site for everything. It is a great site and he has put much work into it. Check it out. You can also check out the Greatest Tips thread here on this board.

you dont have to activate your traits there just alway on. Once you have them then look in the manuel and see what it does, you character can now do that whenever it need. But you dont have to tell him to.
Ex. If you character had Deadfall and you fall from a high spot you will take lees DMG than if you didnt have it.
Hopefully that was a good enofe job.

Gold Digger - better chance to find better items and gold - this is a natural RATLING trait - I don't know off hand if non-ratlings can gain this trait.

Traits are permanent advantages or permanent modifications of your characters. Also, some actions are possible only if you gain the corresponding trait. An example: you cannot use 2nd weapon (even if you can equip it!) until you gain the Doublestrike Trait. This trait allows you to learn "2nd Weapon" skill and gain 2 attacks instead of a single attack with 2 weapons equipped. Without the trait and the skill, you will strike only with your main weapon no matter what you have equipped in your left hand.
The traits are described in your manual. Here are some clarifications and particular traits that you should not overlook:
1. The base traits, i.e., the ones that come with the selected clan during generation:
a) Quick Learner (elf): speeds up leveling up (more XP for killed monsters), faster advancement in skills (every skill points gives bigger improvement to an elf than to other clan member).
b) Mana Seed (Omphaaz): fast regeneration of spell points (25% faster than the regeneration of other clan members).
c) Dodge (Pixie): a great trait that allows a pixie to dodge blows and spells so that it gets hit MUCH LESS often than a member of another clan.
d) Snakeskin (Lizzord): +50% of Poison Resistance.
e) War Cry (dwarf): whenever the dwarf strikes, it tries to cast something like the Frighten spell.
f) Night Vision (Whiskas): rather useless. Torchlight or Illuminate is better.
g) Natural Leader (human): seems to be rather useless. There is a skill that seems to do the same.
h) Gold Digger (Ratling): useless because of numerous gold giving bugs in the game.
i) Lucky Trait (Gnome): unclear. Improves some resistances by 10%, gives(?) some (which ones?) advantages.

2. Elite role traits: see your manual. I cannot add anything to it.
3. Other traits: again, described in the maual. Do not overlook:
a) Ancient Lore (Temple 3, Mages Guild 3): Buy the trait an you will be allowed to learn the Artifact skill - you will be able to identify items.
b) Blacksmith (Warriors Guild 3): Buy the trait and you will be allowed to learn the Forge skill - you will be able to repair your weapons.
c) Ironmight (Warrior's Guild 4 - or 5?): Increases damage inflicted by your weapons. No corresponding skill.
d) Doublestrike( Warrior's Guild 5 - or 4?) Allows you to train the 2nd Weapon skill.
e) Cabalist: (Temple 5 or 4?): allows you to train Blessings skill and enchant items.
f) Occultist (Mages Guild 5 - or 4?): allows you to train Enchants skill and enchant items.
g) Merchant (Rogues Guild 3): better prices when buying/selling items. The price of training or buying traits or skills does not change. No corresponding skill.
Other traits can be bought in the guilds as well. Another traits can be gained during adventuring. Beware of Vampirism Trait - it turns you into a vampire (cannot heal, must kill red blooded creatures). The Vampirism Trait is offered by Lyssandra and Adrianna.
