Probably been posted before, but I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas of soloing?
I've been limiting characters throughout replays, when IWD came out I went through twice with a 6-person party, recently came back to play through again and went through with 4. Now I'm looking to go through with 1! Probably the biggest aspect to me would be only controlling one character: all my attention would be focused on him, no need for pause, etc. Also makes things more difficult. My very first impulse was DC Ranger/Bard, as this would almost be a god figure (fighter, ranger bonuses, thief abilities, spellcasting). Then I recalled you can only dual to main classes. Doh. My next bet would probably be something along the lines of F/M/T. Any other ideas? [ 09-01-2004, 08:04 AM: Message edited by: silencer ] |

silencer,
Don't feel too badly: I actually created a DC Fighter/Bard!! Well, that is, I created a Fighter that I intended to DC to Bard. Glad I did a test conversion when he leveled, and discovered my error without much investment of time. My advice for a solo character: Don't do it! Ok, If you are going to ignore that advice, then it looks like your last listed character is one of the better choices: I have never soloed, myself, but it seems most everyone who claims success used a MultiClass character containing Thief, Mage and/or Cleric skills, and usually Fighter. EDIT: I did a search on "solo" and came away surprised. Although there are a lot of people who played solo, and had lots of ideas of what they THOUGHT was a good solo character; precious few claimed to have completed IWD and/or HoW with a solo character. Here are those who claimed success and the characters they used: Bozos of Bones --> MC F/Necro Midget Gems --> MC F/Illusionist pritchke --> H-elf MC F/M/C Zintha --> F/Druid (MC or DC?) Micah Foehammer --> MC F/M/T Leafy --> H-elf MC C/R Leafy --> Gnome MC C/Illusionist Brett --> Fighter Brett --> Ranger Brett --> M/T (MC or DC?) -------------------- What's a party, without a song? Bards ROCK! Party On!! [ 09-01-2004, 02:39 PM: Message edited by: NobleNick ] |

In IWD, Bards can not dual- or multiclass at all. They can only be Bards.
A Ranger/Cleric or a Fighter/Druid are two solid choices for a solo play. [ 09-01-2004, 01:57 PM: Message edited by: Stratos ]

Best Solo: Fighter/Cleric/Mage - Covers most spells and a solid tank to boot.

Thanks for all the suggestions
I decided earlier I wanted to use wizardly magic, and also some thief abilities (mainly pick pocket). Only choices it came down to was DC/MC T/M, F/M/T, and bard. I ended up choosing bard simply for the lore bonus and the bard-only items. While not the toughest fighter, I figure a combination of spellcasting, items, and fighting should do fine, though it will be difficult later on, especially without healing spells. In an hour on Hard I got to Kuldahar (he was already at level 6 before leaving on the expedition), rolled through the pass without much difficulty using mainly Sleep + bow. Once he gets more powerful I'll try going through on HoF (I forsee QuickLoad getting a lot of use). Character info: Name: Finder Wyvernspur (hey, it's his namesake) Gender: Male Race: Human Alignment: True Neutral Class: Bard Abilities: Strength: 18 Dexterity: 18 Constitution: 16 Intelligence: 18 Wisdom: 10 Charisma: 15 Proficiencies: Bows+ Long Swords+ Maces+ Pretty much powergaming rolls, but I figure he'd have to be pretty amazing if he did the entire quest by himself (plus it's pretty accurate to the real Finder except Strength/Dex, but maybe all this work made him stronger/faster ...?). Good luck with the Bard, I'm soloing one myself.
I don't know about HoF mode, though...
