What do I do

Having played through to the final battle in IWD I arrived with only 4 of my 6 characters I do not have the fire power to win the last battle I have tried and tried.I have now loaded my last saved game where I have six characters,I have also loaded HOW what will the game let me do.
1)enter HOW yes already tried that.
2) Can I complete HOW then return all powerful and complete IWD.
3) Part complete HOW return complete IWD then return again to HOW.
I do not want to lose the final battle in IWD seeing that I got there and lost.

Yes you can complete or semi complete HOW and then return to Icewind Dale itself. Although you can only return to the Dale at certain times when you have done certain tasks for the barbarian shaman in HOW. Via the house in Kuldahar you can then return to HOW. the further you go in How the fewer oppertunities you get to return though (as it gets harder).

Another option that completes the game, but lowers the thrill of victory, is to decrease the difficulty level. I didn't like doing that, but it was the only way I could complete the game will all characters left.

Another, better, option is to search prior posts for strategy tips on the final battle. There are some great tips on spell/tactic combinations.

And, the right answer is.... 2! Take off for HoW just before meeting RBP. (hopefully you have a save from about then.)

You can return early from HoW. I didn't think you could go back to HoW a second time (since I've never tried it); but it appears from the above posts that someone has.)

Yes, that last battle is tough; but HoW will definitely toughen you up for it. Presuming you have a balanced party with a few Fighters, at least one Cleric, and perhaps a Paladin, you should do O.K. in HoW and in the last IWD battle. And yes, as Lymond says, there are tactics you can use that make this battle just tough, instead of seemingly impossible.
