Breaking news ...
15 people have been arrested around NSW and Vic (australia) charged with getting / owning chemicals (to make bombs similer to those used in london) and plotting to carry out an act of terrorism. *sigh* The target is not yet identified and more news is still coming in ... news ----> from the A(ustralian)BC http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems...1/s1499839.htm "Police say that 15 arrests have been made during a series of counter-terrorism raids in Sydney and Melbourne early today. New South Wales Police Commissioner Moroney says more than 400 police officers have been involved in raids on 15 homes in south-western Sydney. He says they have arrested six men in Sydney, who are alleged to be planning a terrorist attack in Australia. "They're currently being interviewed by police and my expectation is that they will appear in Sydney courts this morning," he said. Nine people have been taken into custody in Victoria. It is understood the group may have been in the process of acquiring a range of chemicals that could have been used to conduct an attack. Commissioner Moroney says a terrorist attack has been foiled. "I am satisfied that we have disrupted what I would regard as the final stages of a terrorist attack or the launch of a terrorist attack in Australia," he said. The planned target of the attack is not known.

News sources in Australia may not be giving out all the information that it has because of an application to suppress reporting. All this has happened two days after the federal and state governments passed new laws (which I was partially against ... I will now change my mind). The bit about training camps is very worrying
BBC news.... Those arrested in Melbourne include Abu Bakr, an outspoken Algerian-Australian cleric who has in the past praised Osama Bin Laden as "a great man". He was among nine men who appeared in court in the city on Tuesday, and were charged with membership of a "terrorist organisation". Prosecutor Richard Maidment told the court the men had formed a terrorist group to kill "innocent men and women in Australia". He claims they received military-style training in rural Australia and had discussions about bomb-making. Those arrested in Sydney are also due to appear in court. "The members of the Sydney group have been gathering chemicals of a kind that were used in the London Underground bombings," Mr Maidment said, adding that Abu Bakr was the ringleader of both the Melbourne and Sydney groups. Police said one of the suspects in Sydney was shot and seriously wounded after they came under fire. They said the suspect had refused orders to surrender. I am glad to hear that Australia was able to stop the fools.
Who will they try to go after next?

I caught the tail end of a TV news report earlier. They've released information about the target building/s in Sydney and/or Melbourne but i missed it. Has anyone heard any more? These were not small targets btw...

I hadn't seen this, so thanks for posting it, Wellard! It's scary how much can go on right around us and most people would be oblivous til too late. I'm really glad they raided those places and at least put a big monkey wrench in the terrorist attack plans!
