Tome you mean? The short answer is no, but there other ways to gain additional attributes.

You *do* get an opportunity to raise some stats permanently in the game, but that's right at the end of SoA at Chap 7, just before the final battle with you-know-who-and-if-you-don't-I-shan't-post-a-spoiler-anyway. |

Chapter 7!? Geez... Looks like I'll stick to my enhanced BG I character in BG II. Thanks for the info!

If you buy Throne of Bhaal there's a level in the Watcher's Keep (level 3 I think) where you can raise your traits permanently.

Thanks, Nifft, but can you install ToB when you begin BG II and go to the watchtower early in the game?

If you want to die you can.
I think it's fairly accepted that the tomes unbalanced BG1, most people rerolled stats until they had 18s in their primary stats then used the tomes (and I include myself in this) to make themselves 'slightly more heroic'. What was worse was you could export the damn things out repeatedly and use them more than once-what a dull game- yawn. I actually prefer it the way it is in SoA-you can get temporary stat increases with items but not permanent ones. It seem s better somehow. (If not a touch frustrating having a paladin with 8 int) |

Yes, but be warned there are some nasty battles in there esp toward the bottom
