I'm not sure if anyone can help me with this or not. In Dungeon Siege my map remains totally black, but the strange thing is is that when I scroll the pointer over the map it detects my characters and inventory items on the ground. Does anyone know why this is happening? Do I need to find a map in the gane for it to work? Very frustrating not having a map and getting lost all the time. Can anyone help?

It sounds like a bug in the game. Try going to the official site of Dungeon Siege and downloading the latest patch, and see if that fixes the problem. The map definitely should not be in the black.
Are you running any third-party mods in the game, BTW? That can be problematic. Best of luck! -Saz
