I don't think D&D 3E was out when Baldur's Gate was released so how were they to know. Don't be too bitter about it. Having heard people bitch and moan about what happened to the PnP characters during the conversion and how much worse they got I think it is better that you just live with their memory.

Importing would have been nice, but conversion would be a collosal headache.
How do you transfer a 9 Kensai/2X Wizard into a game where 20 is the ceiling. Given the adventure starts at level 1, fighting 1/2 HD creatures, why would I want my main pc?

Why care about it? Its a NEW GAME! Is starting over that hard? The system is different (3rd edition) the engine is different, etc. Whats the big deal? Your new guy/girl will get to be a badass and you can hug him and squeeze him and pet his little head just like you did your BG character

memnoch already said this, but i think its the main reason
it doesnt matter! youre level 1 all over again and it would be unfair if you didnt lose all your gold and items is it that hard to recreate the same character? have fun with character creation! |

Being able to import your BG2 character into NWN is essentially pointless!
1) by the end of the BG series, your legacy as a child of bhaal has come full circle. what, is that all of a sudden forgotten and your PC all of a sudden is attending some academy in neverwinter? doesn't make sense. 2) you start a 1st LEVEL PC in NWN! that fact, along with the implementation of 3rd edition rules and the expanded character class stuff would render the 2nd edition system of BG2 defunct. because of these reasons, importing your BG PC into NWN would be pointless. he/she would resemble the old PC in name only, and in no other way. if you really want your Baldurs Gate PC to "be" in NWN, make a new character, and make them the same class and same name. that is the only resemblance there would be even if you COULD import the character!
