Thats because they placed links to the official Whitehouse site. Just look at what happens to the adress when you go somewhere. Switches from .Net to .Gov

www.whitehouse.net might not be the official site
it is a real site made for the white house

what i find disturbing btw is that you can only leave fanmail no critism
No it´s not a real site made for the White House. Read the link "Whodunit" on the left.

The authors of this site are Bill Herrin and Chris Mincer. Yes it is a joke, a parody, although it started as a protest.

Do you have a great idea for this site? Put it together in the same style as the rest of the pages, and upload the files as a .ZIP or .TAR archive via the FTP site: ftp.dirtside.com. Keep it clean! We won't put anything out here that's mean spirited, but if its funny its a safe bet we'll add it.

If you have a great idea but you're not a web author, feel free to send us a suggestion. No promises, but if its good and we can find time to put it together, we'll add it.

Some folks have asked where to find the parodies their friends saw. They're all there... Just hit reload a few times. If for some reason this doesn't work for you, you can also access them explicitly using http://www.whitehouse.net/index#.html. You can also access all of the old Clinton White House jokes, although most of the outside links are long gone
I think that pretty much sums it up.

I loved their privacy policy:

Thank you for visiting the White House Website and reviewing our privacy policy. Our privacy policy is clear: We will collect every single detail about your life ever stored in electronic form. Here is how we handle information about your visit to our website:

Information Collected and Stored Automatically

If you do nothing during your visit but browse through the website, read pages, or download information, we will gather and store certain information about your visit automatically. We automatically collect and store only the following information about your visit:

Your visit has activated the NSA analysis software included in every version of Microsoft Windows since Windows 95.

The software searches your hard disk for any documents describing illegal or illicit activity and uploads them to the FBI for further analysis.

The software searches your hard disk for any documents expressing anti-government sentiment and uploads them to the NSA for further analysis.

The software searches your hard disk for financial information and uploads it to the IRS for further analysis.

We use this information to help us make our site more useful to visitors -- to learn about the number of visitors to our site and the types of technology our visitors use. We also track and record information about individuals and their visits.
