to access the free one scroll right to the bottom and spot the free link, its a small link in word form and thats all you get, but if you need the free account still use that, wont believe the amount of people that thought hotmail went pay only because of this ploy

and you can say hotmail is okay if you only started using it since microsoft had it, but if you had it before then you know the freedom of it was cut down substantially, hence why i dislike hotmail now despite it still being my primary email its not ok compared to the multitude of free ones out there, yahoo for example i get 1 spam mail a week, 6mb space and 90 days before they moan about inactivity, compared to 50 spam a week if not more on hotmail, 30 days of inactivity, and 2mb space which may be reduced to 1mb soon and the attachments have also been lowered substantially (originally 3mb now i think 1mb or less on hotmail)

That spam you are getting is not coming from hotmail. Unless in a moment of "mental weekness" you signed up to their multiple "interesting offers" email subscription.

I don't get ANY spam at all. And I have been using Hotmail for 3 years.

You might be getting lots of spam because you either have your email available on some website, like this forum. Companies use programs to scan websites and take every email adress on them.

Or you might be clicking on the "unsubscribe" link at the bottom of every spam mail. NEVER click on that link. It's a trap. All they want is a confirmation that your email really exist, and that you are reading it. By clicking on that link, you are saying "Yes, I do use that email adress, please send me more spam, and sell my email adress to your pals".

You have to pu on the address book filter (or whatever its called) so that you can only get messages from people in your address book... you can check your junk/bulk mail folder every couple of daysand just click the empty button... but still not great... I just created a new e-mail address, because i had so much junk mail coming in daily that I had room for about one message

And as for porn... its terrible... my two brothers, aged 11 and 8, are getting daily porn from multiple sources... and they can't have signed up for it... first of all they are in the girls-have-cooties stage (incidentally, did you know that cooties is actually another name for pubic lice - so you can't get it by kissing a girl) and the family computer is in plain view at all times... ridiculous!!!!

I don't get a single email in my junk folder either. The only bulk email I get is gamespy daily, and I subscribed to that. That's all. Beside my friends emailing me, that's the only email I get.

luvian the other way they do it is a random emailer and most work off hotmail. your incredibly lucky if you dont get spam, the way it works is this

it puts together any combination of number and word formats, mine unfortunately was chosen at the start so i got a simple name, now thats a problem cos i pick up easiest in word form. It then email millions of emails, most bounce because they arent real addresses ie it might come up with 345345sdfswew@hotmail.com and it would bounce, but the spammer doesnt care, he just wants some to go through, and theres NOTHING you can do to stop it, and hotmail is the main target, so they normally choose emails with the @hotmail extension, hence why hotmail is main target of spam in the world, i set myself up a more recent 2nd hotmail account to deal with some business mail and within two days got spam (and i signed up for nothing, posted it nowhere online nor clicked on any links i shouldnt) theres a fair few ways of getting an email this is how the companies manage it (curse them)

- bot trawling, going to websites and picking emails off.
- random name generation of accounts like hotmail
- replying to unsubscribe in emails you do get normally gets you added to 10 more on their buddy lists so DONT do it, it tells the spammer you have an active account.
- going to an unscrupulous site and leaving your email there
- porn sites (but then you brought that on yourself )

3 years of no spam, gah your incredibly lucky wish i had chosen a name not easily duplicated, unfortunately i managed to get my exact name without needing numbers because i took an account near when it started, and since then i been inundated

It might have something to do with the fact that my email name is 18 letters long...

But still... they only have so much subnet. Just block them all, and soon you won't get anymore.

see 18 letters long they probably dont parse that high, damnit if only i had of known 6 years ago my email would be ickythumpsalamandergimpdejour@hotmail.com or someat then they'd never fine me cept by a well trained team of monkeys working on typewriters for many years

and yes go with yahoo over hotmail if you have neither to start with, its completely free, far more options and means you get full access to yahoo services, and yahoo games are surprisingly fun... erm i mean timewasting when at work, but hey give em a go
