I know a thief can't disarm traps in heavy armor, but can he DETECT them in heavier then leather. As in Bg2?

My fighter/Thief is detecting traps while wearing plate armor (then changes into studded lether+2 to actually remove them). You can detect traps in any armor. Can't wait to find some elven chainmail.

I found this last night, but isn't it plate mail? Or is there another item I haven't found yet.

I don't remember a chainmail of life either, but I do remember some other kind of armor of life. The chainmail I gave my theif the chainmail that adds +1 to dex (the +1 almost made up for the loss in theiving skill with chinmail on instead of leather), I won't say where you get it because it is a spoiler, but just complete every quest you can in the hand before leaving (except the one that requires animal, water, and seeds, because that cannot be completed while there). I gave chainmail +2 to my bard, it is cool to cast spells and have good armor. Chainmail +2 is the AC equivilent of plate mail.
