Yes shoot the tax people in England! I am a poor student trying to earn money to support my girlfriend and working 40 hours a week for £200 is great! But I get taxed more than £30 (15%)!!! WHY?! I am finding out soon at the pay office but had to vent my wrath here! RAGGGHHHAAAAA GRRRRRR!
Apparently each week £10 goes to my National Insurance and another £20 goes to P.A.Y.E. what is that I do not know but I'll find out and claim back my phone bill money! Also my parents are under the distinct wrong impression that I should have 1 and half garnd by the end of this and can pay my own uni fees. So they won't have to spend any money except petrol money to send me away! :crying1:

Ahh, I've heard that tax can be a bitch everywhere u go. I've often wondered where it all goes...I mean, the Government must get billions of pounds a year in tax, but yet there's still a veritable tonne of cutbacks and the like...why?

And soon I'll be paying tax myself...< sigh >

I can't believe that you don't know what PAYE is! The Inland Revenue helpline is free so you won't get any phone bill.

And anyway you can claim all of your tax back in June as long as you haven't earned more than £4610.

If you are this upset about £20 a week I pity you when you have to make your way in the real world!

Tax is an anal retentive, inconsiderate son of a dog.

You only have to pay 15% tax? Last I checked, NZs tax rate was 24%

Tax need not be something bad if they tax you according to your income and if they use the tax money on public spending.

Just think what would happen if we didn't pay taxes.... It would be a different world. That's for certain.

WAIT! you pay 30 out of 200 pounds? Thats great! The government only is taking 15% of your money! My father pays a hgiher percentage than that in just social security, almost all of which he will never see, and will go to help people who dont even need it. Heck, by the time he retires he probably wont get any of it, and if he does he wont get his fair share just because he has a government pension from helping vietnam war vets. Add that to income, property, sales, the inheritance taxes we have to pay, taxes by the state, taxes by our city, he loses almost half of his income each year.

We have 20% CPF, then we get taxed.

Count your blessings.

Of course, the CPF is returned to us when we hit 60, or usable under certain conditions( like housing loans).
