Just lately i have been having computer problems. annoying little things like the PSU not working properly and such. i've got that all worked out now but for some uknown reason Direct X won't work. meaning i have no sound and my video card won't work properly. thats not the worst part. as Direct X doesn't work i can't play games on my PC. Can anyone help me with this problem. I'm Currently running Direct X 8.1 (the latest version) and the error message i get when i try to run games is "cannot run Ddraw.dll"

Hmm, well the sound problem I donīt know about, but the DirectX can be the divers for your G-card, so reinstall the drivers, and then reinstall DirectX. Thats the simple solution..

If that doesnīt work, uninstall both soundcard, graphics card, directX and then reinstall it again from scratch. The soundcard, if soundblaster sometimes "looses" its drivers, and it can help to move the card to another slot.

Hopefully someone else can give you more help, personally I try this routine, and if that doesnīt work I usually reinstalled windows. Now I can use the "go back to previous working version" with XP.. :S

Good luck!

i've tried re-installing every driver i know of, and as there drivers there is no uninstall so i can't do that. my brother says we sould re-install windows but, as he's got exams, that could take well into next week. this is a very annoying problem made worst by the fact i just recently got Morrowind all i can say is damn.

BTW i've also tried installing an old version of DX then the now one and fiddled around with the drivers and such for hours.

well life go's on without computers i suppose

Well if you use windows 98 you can do a reinstall without formatting your drive and just uninstall all the programs, and backup your files to a different folder and also copy all the drivers and things to save to a folder, then reinstall windows 98 over the old version, and write over all the files you are prompted about. Alot of reinstalation after that but that might work.

Pretty easy as well, just save your connect to internet dial up (if you are on modem) and put the disc in your puter and use the reinstall. If you have a newer system, try the repair OS function.

i'm am on windows 98 but it would probably be easier to just write everything to CDs (if i can get the damn writer to work) then restart it all, maybe buying a new hard drive (mmmm 80gb) probably not though.
