changing character names

Do you ever change the names of your characters during the game?

Sometimes i give characters only 'useful' names at creation - like bard1, bard2, bard3, or fast monk, powercast sam and the like. During the game, i come up with 'real names'.

There are 'long names' that show up only in the character sheet, not during normal play. I use these to note where thier portal is set, or sometimes for other notes.

In one game, i changed the name of the characters every time they died. But i run out of good names soon.

Hi.
No, I don't change my names during the game. In my role-playing history I collected a lot of names for characters from games, films or books, so I always can give my characters real names at the beginning. In an earlier topic I mentioned that I need a good combination of picture, character, voice and of course names in a game to have long-time fun.
No offense, Wereboar, but I don't want to hear "Don't forget to pillage the bodies" from a cunning, female dracon called 'Bard1'
And about the locations of portals : why not use pen and paper ?

I also never change names during the game, although once I have changed nicknames to more fitting ones.

Loudhy - the bard1, bard2, bard3, gadgy1, gadgy2, bob (bishop) party was a test - i didn't know whether i'd play them more than an hour. They got proper names when they left the monastary.

For the teleport locations - i have about 12 partys more than halfway throug the game. When my current party dies, maybe i don't have a good idea for a new one at that time, and reactivate an old one instead. And in ironman, its good to know in advance where the portal is set. Well, i used papers in he first games, but these dozens of papers tend to disappear.

Hi Wereboar,

I never played so many parties myself. I always have only one on the way because I cannot forget one for a time, jump to an other and play a third two weeks later.
For me RPG playing is like entering a cinema : I must see a film to the end before I can view an other.

Loudhy it is exactly the same with me, although sometimes I do abandon my parties at some point during the game, but then they never get played with again, although I always keep them (don't know why though). And BTW sometimes I can't remmber which o my 3 portalling characters has his/her portal where, so I just save and reload if it is the wrong one.
