I'm not too thrilled with IWD2 either. I played Baldur's Gate all the way through, the original with Tales of the Sword Coast added on, to BG2 with its add on, several times. I have played IWD2 up to just through the Dragon's Eye but, like others have said, I can't really stay motivated to play it through. What I would like to see is some kind of upgrade for the older games that allow most 3rd edition rules, like the skills and feats, to be added in. I think that would would make the games more interesting.

I have to say it hasn't "grabbed" me like they did. I've played BG and BG2 3 times, IWD twice or three times. I can't even motivate myself to finish IWD 2. Actually, I didn't finish Planescape Torment as I wasn't struck on it either.

I'm in chapter 6, in the hand, up to the "fingers" and have had enough. I have enjoyed playing it, but it's been too linear, not enough side quests like in BG1 and 2. I'm also not sure about the 3rd edition rules.

Maybe it's my age, everything was better back in '95, longer summers, you could leave your door unlocked blaah blaah.

Sorry folks, what do you lot think?.
Your post pretty much echoes my feelings, although I do like the 3rd edition implementation. Reminds me of Black Isle's Fallout series.

The BG engine retires on a sad note.

Yeah, I have also noticed that. IWD2 is very good game, but not excellent. Almost everything is better than in IWD1, but not atmosphere, that is.

I´m getting tired of the too fixed and linear play. Having played countless of hours of Morrowind does that too you. However I pliked the implementation of 3:ed rules, I know an opinion of taste, hoewever I find it to my liking.

But the game engine is horrible.. So many lags and freezings and smal bugs that makes it not worth it.

*sigh* I hope they start using the NWN engine a bit more in their future games, I have had very little issues with that one, sure not perfect, but nothing is.

I don't think they will use the NWN engine that much. You need a very good computer and some specific graphic cards to be able to play it, while the infinity engine can be played on about any computers.

I didn't find the game to lag or anything... and the only bug I found was that I couldn't get through one door in the Ice Temple... I really like this engine

BIS is currently working on a new game engine to replace IE, code-named Jefferson. IIRC, it's supposed to be another isometric view engine using the 3rd ed DnD rules. Also IIRC, it's gonna use a point buy character generation system according to JE Sawyer.

I got this info from:
