I've heard people on here talking about different modes in IWD, things like Heart of fury? (Something like that.) What are they exactly?

They are different difficulty settings. Hard of fury is a bit different from the in game difficulty slider, iinm. You can only play HoF through checking it's box in the config screen. In HoF, you'll get monsters that are a lot thougher aswell as certain extra 'monsters' in certain areas.

You must have Heart of Winter expansion to be able to play Heart of Fury mode and you must activate it in Config program.

heart of fury mode is basically for those who are staring game from very beginnig using imported high level characters, and who otherwise would find it too easy... if you try starting a game with new characters in hof then one goblin will be able to annihilate your whole party... in hof monsters give much more xp
heart of fury is only in heart of winter
