I wish to have a program icon in the system tray and this program does not have the option to do so. Is there a way to get this program to be in the system tray? I know about the trick where you can put an shortcut in the startup folder but I don't want it to start up, just want the icon to sit in the system tray at startup. Any help is greatly appreciated.

You can drag a shortcut into the quicklaunch bar on the bottom left, but the system tray is for programs designed to use it.
