All the blonde jokes and me being a blonde got me to thinking.......how did it ever get started that blondes are dumb? It is now part of our "popular culture." Does anyone have a clue as to when it started or how? I'm just curious.

Well, I don't really know where it started, but my guess is Kelly Bundy on Married with Children

Oh, guys it goes back way longer than that. I mean, why isn't it dumb redheads, or dumb brunetts? The pathetic thing is that some people (subconciously) do think that. I don't think it is a conscious thing, but I think there is that stereotype. I have experienced it myself at times.

You can totaly blame the U.S. movie industry of the 40's 50's & 60's with Blondie movies and comics also Jane Mansfield and Marylin Monro they were totaly dumb Blonds in their movies. It went crazy after that and now Reeka joins the ranks because Blonds have always been curious. HA! HA! just kidding about the Reeka part.

I don't stereotype (at least I try not to), but maybe it was someone that was blonde that acted particularly ignorant and everyone knew her? (on television and so forth)

Blondes look less serious. When I dyed my hair black, I felt dark, moody and and literally more serious. Blondes have the appearance of "lightness", "vivacity" and "fun". Which I presume goes hand in hand with being a bit silly I suppose. Ignorance is bliss and all that.

Either that or it's a form of jealousy. Blondes are very rare as far as world hair colour goes. Could be a "well she may be beautiful but she's stupid" kind of a thing.

Who the heck knows? I married a blonde who was frighteningly intelligent. She did a double major at one of Australia's top universities - philosophy and advertising. Came first in the state for a subject in her high school HSC (SAT equivalent). One of the most expressive and brilliant minds I've known, yet she was disarmingly "fun" and "bright". She's a marketing guru now, and a writer. Yet she still can come across as being "a dizzy blonde" from time to time.

How? Who the heck knows? If the clothes maketh the man, what does the hair do?

Mind you I'd forget my head if it wasn't screwed on.

Ann Coulter is blonde and she is neither silly nor fun.

But yeah I think Crimson(m) has a point and it might have started back in Marylin Monroe days, makes sence anyway.

It could also be a jealous thing.

But the sterotype is way, way, way off. Alot of blonde people I know are very smart.
