I want to know how to do it! Do I need a charged soul gem (like with a soul in it) to make something? How do I 'get started' (stupid question I know, but like, when you make a potion you just drag an apparati onto your paperdoll, so how do I make a magic item?). What sorts of items can I enchant? Rings, amulets, belts I imagine, and I know that 'better' ones (like exquisite better than common and so on) make a more powerful item, but what about clothing?

Also, I thought that enchanting (obviously), charging soul gems (?) and recharging items increased your enchant skill. Does anything else? My enchant skill has something like 40/100 towards the next whole point and I've never enchanted anything, never recharged anything, and never trapped any souls. The closest I've come is finding a soul gem with a scamp soul trapped lol! So what's improving my enchant skill?

And, like intelligence with alchemy, if I have a high ammount of some attribute, will my items be more powerful?

Finally, if I'm unsuccessful in my enchanting attempt, what will happen? Will the item I'm enchanting be destroyed? The soul gem should I require one be destroyed too?

Thanks for any help

you need a soul gem with a soul in it. pick it up and put it in your paperdoll. a box will appear. one is " recharge item " and one is " create echanted item "
recharge item means to replensih your item charges.okay, if you want to create new item, click " create enchanted item. a big bow will appear. click on the item you want to enchant. select the soul gem you want to choose. then select the spell that you want to enchant into the item. select the desirable numbers you want, press okay. don't forget to click the little box down below to select your desirable effect. after that, click done to enchant your item. NOTE : you must have the spell first before you can enchant the spell into the item.

to trap soul, buy a soul trap spell. make sure you have an empty soul gem. go to your wanted monster. cast soul trap on him and quickly kill him. NOTE : npc cannot be soul trap.

intelligence effect enchant. the higher it is the more successful you are in enchanting item. if you are unsuccessful, the item remain intact but the soul gem is gone forever.

I see, thank you Kakero

What do the souls do for items? Do different creature's souls make more powerful items? Do they give special attributes to the enchanted items based on the creature's characteristics? For example, as I said I have a soul gem with a scamp soul in it. What will that do if I tried to enchant something?

different souls got different enchant power. the more power it got the better the enchant is. you can even create a constant enchant with a powerful soul. so never pass up the opportunity to soul trap a golden saint or an ascended sleeper. these two got the most powerful souls.

note : if you can, use grand soul gem to trap to those two.

...Also because you won't be able to do that with lesser gem types.

In general, the stronger is the creeature, the stronger is the soul. Diseased and blighted creatures have more powerful souls than their healthy counterparts.
Also, IIRC, better soulgems improve soul power (and value if you are in the soul trading business)

The type of creature trapped in a soul gem affects only the amount of 'charge' an enchanted item has. The overall power of your enhanted items is determined by the enchantment potential of the item you choose to stuff around with. That is to say, some items (exquisite vs common etc) have more potential than others. If you want to find out more about the enchantment potential of the various items in morrowind (recommended), then there is a handy list available from here.

Bear in mind that the charge of a soul also determines whether or not an item can be enchanted with a 'constant effect'. Golden Saints and Ascended Sleepers are the only souls that can provide these benefits to your enchanted items.

Enjoy!

Thanks guys! I have lots of scrolls of Fphyggii's Gem feeder and I just trapped a frost atronach's soul in one of the purple gems. I really just want to make some sort of item of recall. I hate wasting a third of my magicka just getting back somewhere when part of the reason I teleported out in the first place was to refresh myself! I tried buying one but it was super expensive even with me supplying the gem and the ring.

Can anyone answer this question?

Question Mark

When using enchanted items, their charge gets depleted. (You already know this) Over time the lost charge gets replenished - the item "rests". The rate at which the items regains charge is based on you enchant/intel. This increases your enchant.

If you can't afford to pay to have your ring enchanted (er..) then the only option is to do it yourself. But there's a catch. Depending on the number of soul gems that get wasted in failed attempts, it may end up being cheaper to get someone else to do it. (OT, this sounds like every DIY fix-it job i've ever done!!) I'm guessing the guy/gal is asking about 30,000 septims for the task? It's ridiculous, i know, but unaided, your character could quite easily blow ten times this ammount on destroyed gems.

The only economically viable solution to this problem is to raise your INT to crazy levels before attempting a DIY enchantment. Potions are the only way to achieve this. If your character is skilled with alchemy, then you're laughing. If not, you're gonna have to hunt around to find as many fortify intelligence potions that you can get your hands on. This may be quite expensive as you're gonna need a LOT of potions. (spending some time/money on raising your alchemy skill could end up saving you a lot of time/money in the long run.) I'm not sure exactly at what point your enchantment attempts become 100% successful, but by raising my INT to 1500 or more before trying, i've never wasted a soul gem.

Also, to save on stuffing around, you may want stock up on soul gems and items (and spells to enchant them with!) and do all your enchanting in one burst.

[Edit: All that for a Ring of Recall! I'm sure you can buy a pre-made one for <200 septims from somewhere. Exactly where, though... well, i don't recall ]
