Only if your downloading executables. Straight audio, videos, documents (apart from .doc, but even they cant be infected by a virus like this) and all that are perfectly safe.

And even if you do download executable files, scanning them with an updated scanner is standard procedure, right? So no problems there then. Viruses on p2p are nothing new, this one is a bit nastier than most, thats all.
