You should have found a base to neutralize it in. There is no reason to suffer. A base would work faster than water. Someting like Baking Powder mixed in water.
That is something recommended if you have a kid that gets gasoline in his eyes, or hot chili oil.

Ouch, that must've hurt my sympathies. Acid is never pleasant, and it sounded like the one you had was pretty concentrated
You know, I was just thinking of starting a thread like this... no one really appreciates the lack of pain... how pleasant it is to be able to sit around without anything hurting... (don't mind me, just got a wisdom tooth pulled and I've gone wacked on the painkillers, not that they're working perfectly... just dulls the pain enough to write this)

Your lab should have had an emergency acid neutralizing washing solution for acid burns. I suppose that is not requisit, but I would certainly now insist that the lab get one. My college has one.

Ah, but the chemicals handled there would be more dangerous, and potentially a lot more corrosive etc because by reguklation in secondary school we can only use diluted acid with 9 parts water to 1 part acid, so the worst we have is an irritant, or maybe slightly corrosive.
It was probably just because of the sting from the cut that made it real bad, cos otherwise the acid at worst makes you itch a little, or sore maybe.
