Have you ever hit a person? For what sort of things would you do/have you done it? Do you consider it acceptable under some circumstances? Do you think it's ever acceptable to beat a woman or a child? Do you feel differently if it's a man? Lotsa questions...just curious.
BTW, not trying to get a thread like the child-smacking one going here, and I hope it can remain civil. I'm not asking for heated debates, just your own opinion and experiences.

Hitting a person in self defense is perfectly allowed in my opinion. Hitting them for any other reason, no. If your life is in danger or you risk severe injuries by not doing so then you're perfectly allowed to hit a woman as well, I should say. But only enough to keep yourself safe. No "beating".

I've always found it weird that most men would NEVER hit a woman, almost none of them would, unless they were severely threatened by her, but a lot of people do find it acceptable for a woman to hit a man. Of course you almost never hear about it, but it's a fact that there are MEN who get beaten by their wives. That is so horrible... Consider that most men wouldn't even think of hitting back, and add the fear they must have of being called a sissy, of not being able to 'control' their wives. It must be awful.
Saw a documentary on it and it got me wondering about the whole thing...

It depends on the circumstances. In martial arts classes you tend to go "easy" on the women. This, unfortunately, detracts from their training as much as your own

In self defence, sure. In an argument? I'd hope not

And yes, beating can go in both directions

What was this documentary called, Melusine? And where did you see it? I'd like to learn a bit more about the subject It sounds to have moderate interest.

The only time I lashed out and proceeded to brutally beat up somebody was a jerk who had been insulting me for years( 4-5 years ago, I am not sure of the exact date, not something I am trying to remember). The proverbial final straw came when he insulted my parents. Since then, I have not hit anybody else( better self-control? I dunno). I will never hit a woman though. Kids? I will say no, since that will be bullying( although I have to admit, it can be soooo tempting sometimes). Men? I guess in defense, and if they insult my family. I can handle personal barbs, but I draw the line at family. I know people will say I should not strike even if they mention family, but... I dunno how to explain.

I'm not usually quick to anger and I hate fighting, but I have hit people before. I remember one time when I broke my friends nose because he was hitting on my gf (we were all drunk, and when I mean 'hitting on', I mean 'really hitting on!'). I was so mad, Something came over me, I just walked up to him and bam! right in the face. He had to go to the hospital and I was branded a f***head.
I havent hit anyone since and that was two years ago.

I would never hit a women or a child. Yes I would hit someone in self defence, I'm a blackbelt in Tae-kwon-do

Sorry, it was in Dutch.
But it drew my attention even more to domestic violence directed at men. I know people who have been on the receiving end of it (male people, that is), and it's always struck me as something terrible. Of course, beating a woman is just as bad, but the societal attitude towards that is a lot more supportive of the victims.

Yes I've hit people before. I've never been the agressor, always in self defense. Beat a woman never, beat a child never. Defend myself against either you bet.

Personally I've haven't met a woman that could take me out, so why should I hit her? Yes I ve been hit by a woman , I blocked the 1st swing then just covered up the vitals, Bobbed and weaved, and let her wail away. After about 20-25 seconds she was tried, I looked at her and ask her if she was done. Which of course piss'ed her off so she swung again and I blocked it.
