I think the bard is really useless, so I thought I would follow Memnoch's advice and play a Jester solo on core-rules for real challenge. I just don't know how to start. What allignment should I get? What stats should I have?
Here is my creation: Chaotic neutral - the familiar is a cat that can hide in shadows Str 6 - I can always get the girdle of giant strength when I get out of the dungeon Dex 18 - a little bonus when I shoot arrows + 4 AC bonus Con 18 - I like a little more hp than 30 int 18 - scribing in the beginning before I get potions can get a little difficult wis 15 - this is good enough cha 15 - I wish I could lower this to 3 I have one problem with this bard, he cannot find traps. I need to find traps. What allignment should I choose so that I get a familiar that can find traps AND scout? Thanks. |

Yeah you are right. Only Fighters/Paladins/Rangers gain the extra +2/level CON bonus when con is at 18. Good thing you reminded me.
What about familiars?? Oh and by the way, what is good with wisdom, does it give you some protections against spells? I know if it is lower than 13 it will give you chances of spell casting failure, but it must also have a good side. The cleric or druid can get more spells with good wisdom but what about normal characters? Is there anything good with wisdom? |

low wisdom spell failure penalty only apply to cleric and druid. it gives lore bonus
high wisdom gives bonus against mind spells such as charm, they SUPPOSED to give bonus to save vs spell, but i am not sure |

Don't know about the familiar. My sorceror was Lawful Neutral and got a ferret which could hide in shadows and pick pockets

Truth be told I never found much use for a familiar myself. It was just in my pack the entire time. A cat can be good for scouting.
