Hello everyone..

Just wanted to let you know that the fully integrated Beta of Dying Sun is now available.. If you're wondering what Dying Sun is:

* an original computer role playing game, in the spirit of Phantasy Star, with the situational maturity of the Fallout series.

* true turn based combat, detailed character development, persistent corpses in battle, esoteric musings from the protaganist (who is NOT a wayward, misanthropic soldier-class angst-filled 'rebel' youth (aka most RPGs) , but a concerned, timid, fish-out-water hydroponic specialist from the orbital platform Rhea )

* descriptions for every items/tile in the game.. from the works of Proust. to the karmic aspirations of a lesbian kleptomaniac psychic, to the guilt-ridden remonstrations from a cocaine addict placed under Great Duress from his suppliers - there's a cornucopia of character interactions and subtle irony to be uncovered here.

* physiology, hybridization, and evolutionary developmental information available for each creature in the game, if you have the requisite lore (intelligence) rating; no "you hit the big monster for 20 points" and it disappears in a "blink"... each beast has a history, a reason for its existence, a methodology to its attacks, and a unique corpse.

* real-life weaponry with realistic descriptions.. you start off with a 0.22 caliber Smith & Wesson snub nose revolver (1 7/8th inch barrel) , and may eventually work your way up the firearm hierarchy to sub machine guns and 12 gauge Winchester shotguns.

* Characters with agendas and memories.. you won't find any "Welcome to Hometown!" characters here.. characters remember what you do, some may be sent to jail depending on your actions.. some may die horribly in a pool of filth and intestinal rupturing based upon your decisions.

* handwritten notes.. well, maybe not a big deal, but I've not seen this in a shareware RPG before.. handwritten notes scanned to lend an air of authenticity to the versimilitude I'm trying to sustain for the player..

* Classical Piano Music from TJ Moir serves as a backdrop to your musings and wanderings.. no techno! (whew!)

* it's free!

so, if this has piqued your interest, and you are not a "power gamer", please visit the site:

For those interested, I also run the Wizards and Warriors Story Archive.. (see link below)

Enjoy!

Sounds like a plan! As my first real release, I'm sure I'll miss a few things ^.^

Hopefully the other archive folks will have a chance to check it out, too
