There is not much choice in mens clothing because there is no demand for it. They could make em but the clothes would just sit on the shelves. Certainly their would be some men who would appreciate more choice but they are the exception rather then the rule.

It really doesn't matter how many styles of clothes there are for men, we usualy don't care. We'll wear plad pants with a striped shirt, paesly(sp?) shirt, or my personal fav. argile socks with my short pants and old tennis shoes while mowing the lawn. As for clothes if they sort of fit and are reasonalbly clean(washed within the last 6 months) they'll do.
You want to see true shopping go to the power tool section of Sears, Lowe's, or that bastion of yuppiedom Home Depot. AARRRUUUUU!!!!!
We'll pick up every power tool there is, play with it, and make our own sound effects

I wouldn't enjoy shopping personally myself if there were more chioces, because the clothes I wear are all very similar in any case. My wardrobe is full of black t-shirts, black shirts, black jeans and a couple of other black things I dunno how to descrbie. If ther was more chioce it would confuse me, and I never have any money anyhoo, so shopping depresses me coz I know I can't buy anything...phew

"Shopping?" What is this "shopping" you speak of? I just wear robotic death armor and "clothing"... preferabbly non-stupid-looking "clothing"... which isn't really that hard to find in general... Your theory sounds like it may be valid... then again, it might just be a leftover from people either being too consistently covered with armor and/or blood for people to notice clothing... either that or that didn't exist, but, cows... COWS OF DOOM!!!!...

I hate clothes shopping. Really detest it.
It doesn't help that everything has gone all frills and flowers this summer (for women obviously LOL). I just don't do frills! Have you any idea how long it took me to find a pair of plain blue straight-leg jeans (so that I could have turn-ups)? Most of the jeans in the shops are either flowery, glittery, sequinned, flared, or have those twisted leg seams.
Tried to find women's shirts (khaki, plain or checked) and couldn't, ended up in the menswear dept buying shirts cos all the womens ones were flowery and flouncy.

I can't help be feel some people are missing the point of the post so I put it again.

Lack of choice of styles for men= less enjoyment= dislike.
A greater amount of styles for men= more enjoyment= like.
However lack of choice= getting used to little choice= new choices seem wrong= no new choices. (So new choices will have to be started of for children see point two.)

Greater choice for women= enjoyment= more money being spent and so more styles being made= acceptence of dressing differently (i.e. in mens cloths)= too much choice= less enjoyment??

Like Aelia said men only have suits to wear to speical occasions, while women have different styles fo dresses. So if a man turned up in a full length evening grown he will be considered odd,but a women can turn up in a suit and be accepted.

Socially, mens clothing has always been geared toward uniformity. Womens clothing and appearances have been geared more towards diversity. Part of this probably lies in the fact that way back when, men were the job holders and women stayed home. Almost all jobs required a uniform of some type back then. Many still do and are they are also more stringent with the male uniforms than the womens. This even applies in the military! Anyway, due to a lack of disposable income there was precious little to spend on anything but work clothes for the man. Thus, the birth of the boring blue collar wardrobe. Executives were expected to dress in formal business attire, so they too had uniforms of a sort. Women in the workplace is a newer concept so they don't have all the past social rules ingrained in their behavior and appearance.
