Once again spyware clogs up my hard drive. Right.
I update my adaware. start running the scan. It looks like I'm very infected. Suddenly an error thingie pops up, you know the one. A process has been stopped, save your work, the computer will restart in t minus... Now i have to watch the computer restart without any way to finish the scan or removing the spyware. What should i do? Is there any way to overide the shut down? Has anyone else had a simmilar problem? I apriciate any advice, thanks! EDIT: I forgot, im using windows XP. I tried checking if the message itself was a process i could shut down but i couldent find anything. BTW This happens every time I try to run the scan. Also, make sure you're using Ad-Aware version 6, with the latest updates to the build.

To cancel a remote shutdown, or the shutdown box I think your seeing, open command, (Click start, run, and type "command" without the quotes), as soon as the shutdown box comes up, type "shutdown -a" (without the quotes") if this is what im thinking, that should terminate the shutdown sequence, and you should be able to finish your scan.

Well, i ran spybot, found a few hundred problems. I removed them and voila! I could once again scan using adaware. I feel very refreshed, thanks everybody!
Hivetyrant, I will definitely keep that in mind, could be very useful, Thanks. - May spybot run on next startup? - Why yes, yes it may.

Cool! Check through the forum's older posts, but there are about half a dozen things you should run regularly now, including:
1. Spybot 2. Ad Aware 3. HiJack This 4. Zone Alarm (or other firewall -- I know, Willow ) 5. Panda or AVG antivirus (or others) 6. Mozilla Firefox (instead of Internet Explorer) *edit* forgot to add.. 7. Trend Micro's Housecall -- online virus scan, just to make sure that your scanner is also clean. www.trendmicro.com */edit* Life shouldn't have to be so hard... but it is. Glad you're back on the straight and narrow, and if I were you, I'd run the first two at least once a week. I now run them daily. [ 08-28-2004, 03:24 PM: Message edited by: Bungleau ]

While on topic I don`t have any AV program or firewall. So after installing Avast! and AntiVir (from Larry`s post) I found one virus. And of course I am using Mozilla. Also I was thinkhing on getting Thunderbird client. Any opinions?
