Hatch Wants to Fry Traders' PCs (DAT's Entertainment Wednesday)
Sen. Orrin Hatch escalates his attack on illegal music downloads and advocates remotely destroying file traders' computers. Legal experts say such attacks would violate federal antihacking laws and might target innocent users. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- *****bzzzzzzzzzttttttt*******

This is another stupid idea that I doubt will get anywhere. The idea about letting black-hat hackers and virusmakers work under the aegis of the law (especially in a non-military field) is simply too unpopular.
It militates against both conservative and liberal views.

I think Hatch got his panties/knickers in a wad! Sounded like nonsense when I heard about it the other day. Made about as much sense as the Belgium War Crimes Law in the other thread.

his idea is like an advertisement for hackers to come raid his computer! im sure if i had any knoldege whatsoever i would do somthing to spite him. i can just imagine some hacker breaking into his machine and installing all kinds of p2p downloady software, complete with ready to go illegal downloads
and how does he intend to destroy the computer exactly? unless he plans to write a virus to change the voltages on your chip to kill it, there is not much he can do!

The guys a half-wit. Even the RIAA think he wants to go to far. He has no conception of the realities of the internet. This will never happen. I hope.

I agree that innocents might get hit with a zap. I mean what about if someone else uses someone's computer for a download. What about libraries, schools, and businesses? Are you going to fry their computers? Ridiculous.

Poor Orrin, first they find he is using unlicensed software on his website. Then while his staff scrambled to fix that problem, Web surfers discovered his site had a link to a pornographic website. I almost feel sorry for him, almost

While amusing, this one does not reflect upon the half-witted senator. Cybersquatters could pick on any expired domain name - it could happen to anyone. Potentialy, even Zirocs link page could end up pointing to porn, if one of the sites on it hasnt renewed properly.
Now the software piracy thing was at least partialy his own fault, even if he got someone else to make the site its his responsibility to ensure the software is liscenced.
