Or the infamous incident of an ally accidently hitting him with a spell. If that happened, then that could be another reason why you didn't get the XP.

Cross-fire...

Rubbish, death by poison will not rob you of XP. If that was the case, Assassins would get shafted, but as it is, and can be easily proven, you still get XP from enemies that died from poison.

More likely is that the enemy Cleric accidentally kill Mae'Var.

Why is it than that Imp. Kitthix robes me of several thousand points of EXP. due to poision damage she inflicts, is this because she is a summoned creature..?

Example:

Improved Kitthix does 5 damage to Mae'Var
Improved Kitthix does 5 damage to Mae'Var
Improved Kitthix does 5 damage to Mae'Var
Improved Kitthix does 5 damage to Mae'Var
Improved Kitthix does 5 damage to Mae'Var
Mae'var Death

But Kitthix was already death, this is poision damage but I don't get any Exp. for him going death...

Death by summoned creatures still give you XP, although your case is unusual because,

1) Kitthix died before the target

This is something I have not tested, since kills by dead people might not count as a valid kill( thus no XP). Under normal circumstances though, where the killer is still alive, the XP is most definitely given to you.

If you do not believe this, simply find some easy target, like a Hooligan in the Docks District. Use an Assassin or Poisoned Daggers to inflict poison damage on him, then just wait. You will find that you receive your XP in full.

Trolls give XP too when you kill them by poison, another good example to validate this fact.

Question Mark

Or it could have been a simple glitch.

If a party member gets held, imprisoned, killed, (I am not sure what conditions do that), and some enemy dies from his damage (be it poison, trap, delayed blast fireball, missile which is still flying towards the target...), you will gain no XP for the kill.
That is, when you bring him/her back or the hold wears off, the XP will be given.

Whenever any enemy dies, the game checks to see which creature applied the final hitpoint of damage. If that creature is currently allied to the PC (green circle), then the "EXP for kill" is awarded to the party. If the creature happens to already be dead, then the check returns the answer False, due to the word "currently."

And actually, I don't think the EXP floats around, waiting to be collected when you Raise/Free a dead character.
