I think that if a person wants to find fault, error, or weakness in a person, place, or thing...he/she will not stop until that weakness has been found. And it is very easy to do, if one is determined...especially if it is in justification or to make ones' self feel better of one's own personal predictament.
It is popular in today's upcoming generation to band together and attack something. In fact, nobody wants to correct their own errors...only try to fix the mistakes of everyone else. On a side note...I think that the main reason that the Middle Eastern countries like the ones we are at war with right now are only hating us due to supreme jealousy. They live off what we give them in our oil purchases, since that is the only natural resource they have. Yet, thier govt. was so corrupt that the money for that oil purchase was going in the pockets of the princes and wealthy families there,,,not for the general populace, in which Hussein likes to have around only to experiment his new weapons on. They look at the world we live in, where money is virtually everywhere, anybody can come here and open a business with more ease than thought possible, and live very wealthy if that is what is desired. Over there, they have nothing to leave their children for an inheritance. At the end of thier lives, they have nothing to leave behind to show that they made a difference in the world. Therefore, they look at us with hatred, wondering why they cannot live the way we do. They want the things we enjoy and TAKE FOR GRANTED...even simple things like clean water that runs freely, hot baths, huge mansions, and four weeks of paid vacation per year. So, they say that we are of the devil...because we enjoy the fruits of the Earth while they are made to suffer. One more thing in closing...Do not forget where America came from. Most of us came from other countries. We are your ancestors, most of us. My family line has Cherokee indian in it, but also German, Irish, and Scottish. My wife's ancestory dates back to a royal duke of England. Edmund deLangley was his name. So who are Americans, other than your own kindred ? [ 08-18-2002, 10:11 PM: Message edited by: Larry_OHF ]

I have to agree with Blade about the Sept. 11 attacks. If out government didnt go pokeing around where it wasnt welcome we would probably have been left alone. It is kind of like when trolls invade the forum. They disrupt things and Z swats them. Our govt. nosed into some stuff and the so called terrorists swatted them. If it was the other way around and U.S. citizens pulled a stunt like Sept. 11 then the American people would hail them as heros.
Another reason why I think we Americans get a bad rap is because of our military service men. I was in the Navy during the Gulf war and went on 2, 6 month deployment into the meditereanean sea. We stopped off in england, spain, france, italy, greece, the U.A.E. isreal, and turkey. At every stop most of my fellow service men made a drunken disgrace of themselves. They got into fights with the locals , harrased any women in sight and genraly acted like shore leave was a giant fraternity party. The worst was in Nice,France. Guys were walking down the topples beaches with video cameras tapeing all the sunbathers and acting like they had never seen a topless girl before.I am sure most of them hadnt, but that is still no excuse. For my part I got as far inland and changed my clothes as soon as posible so that I wouldnt be asociated with thoes dog turds. Maybe if we could get U.S citizens to act more like people and less like "Americans" we wouldnt have such a bad rep anymore.

It is very easy for some to hate or dislike a group of people because of traits they apparently have. It is harder to find reasons to like them.
I find it interesting that the lowest common denominator rules and that few of us really research an opinion and make up our own minds. We spew forth opinions in the media, or our family or our friends. We don't really think about how we honestly feel about something. I lived overseas for a few years. By and large - the uneducated populace will find it easy to hate what they do not understand. The educated and truly literate are a minority, but generally don't feel the need to make their opinions known. After all, the great proletariat outnumber us. Keep in mind there are plenty of U.S. citizens who travel overseas and are well thought of because they are not the stereotype, or they are not even pegged as Americans. What the governments say never reflect what all the people in any given country think, so generalizing on that basis is pretty ignorant. I hear tons of American bashing during the day and on the boards. What I don't see are people who use this event to change their lives. Complaining is easy - making a difference is so much harder.

What I want to know is why are people so quick to point a finger at this country or that and no one ever thinks to blame mankind in general?
People have and lack the same morals all around the world. Just because one country gets more press coverage than another does not make them superior and whoever thinks so needs to realize we are all the same. I bleed the same red blood that you do but I am not about to call you out and point any derogatory fingers at you because you are in the spotlight and I am not. I wish I could be pissed off enough to type more on both sides of the argument but it is a ridiculous argument to begin with and really doesn't deserve half of what I have already took the time to type. Live and let live...make your life worth something to you...and watch out for the thieves and jackasses, they are everywhere! P.S. I only just read the second page of replies and I have to disagree with Larry about Americans taking for granted the good things in life that we have. Some may but there are plenty of others who don't; others who know just how lucky we are to enjoy some of the luxeries offered in modern day living. It doesn't make sense to me that the Middle East should hate us because their leaders pocket the money their countries make from America...it is not America's wrong-doing that they are kept living in poor conditions, nor is it our fault that their leaders should abuse them...the same way you cannot blame our citizens or any other country for the abuse American powers hand out to their own. The fault lies in he who does the wrong, not which country he is from or has command of. Look at yourself before you judge another lest you find a finger pointing back at you for a number of different reasons. [ 08-19-2002, 03:59 AM: Message edited by: Moni ] |

This thread is a blatant flame bait and, (in the main), the only people replying are those who are still at school and those extremists who have never been taught the meaning of the word 'paragraph'. Just reading through some of the threads on this board will show you that you can't categorise all Americans as being the same (thank God ).
