There's an animated version of 'the Hobbit'??!! I've never heard of that. When was it made? And more importantly, where can I get myself a copy???
Yes, there is an animated version of the Hobbit and also of LOtR. Can't recall the exact date it came out, but it was some time ago.

I'd look for copies of both amimated movies to start showing up again in abundance.

The animated versions were cool... if slightly basic... there were periods of talking in it, where the on screen picture didn't change at all... but I stopped noticing that after I got caught up in it... and the songs were good

*breaks off in to terrible singing*

Frodo of the nine fingers,
And the ring of doom!
Why does he have nine fingers?
And where is the fing of doom?

Where there's a whip *kerchesh* there's a way

I read somewhere else in the forum that Faramir's character has been totally changed around. If it is im gonna be PO'd because he was one of my favourite character's from the book. And Peter Jackson's next film sounds kind of like the PC game Return to Castle Wolfenstien.

It's true, Gazza, Faramir gets changed into a total prick...worse than Boromir...it's sickening! But the movie's great regardless!

an animated version of The Hobbit was made in 1977. It was far too "cutesy" compared to the book and especially the movie. It runs a scant 78 minutes. The Lord of the Rings was made in 1978, and was part one of the story. The director couldn't finish it, so an attempt was made in 1980, Return of the King, which ran 97 minutes.

Here is a link to an interview with Peter Jackson where he explains the changes to Faramir. I think a lot of people are upset because they are familiar with the Faramir at the end of ROTK, and they only see the Faramir of TTT in this movie...there is quite a difference. It came out in 1977.

Here's a link for it on Amazon.com .

There is also an animated version of LotR that came out after it, but it isn't as good. It was done in two parts instead of three. The first part had an "acid trip" 70's feel to it, but the second part had more of the Hobbit's "feel".

You can find them on Amazon.com, too. Either to buy seperately, or here as a set.

EDIT - I see HolyWarrior beat me to it.

It was "cutsey", but keep in mind, it's made for kids. I loved it as a kid, when it was new, and still enjoy watching it today.

I went and saw it Saturday. Loved it! I don't think they changed Farmir to much. If you remember, he was pretty heavy handed with Frodo and Sam when they were first caught. They just extended it out to Osigilith. Other than that, I thought he was pretty dead on. Can't wait to see how it all turns out in RotK. I understand that the Scouring of the Shire has been deleted (HATE THAT!), so Jackson should be able to get it all in 3 hours.

BTW MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!

thanks for the lowdown Bman and HolyWarrior I'll check it out. I've seen that original LotR, it was god-awful crap. But the Hobbit sounds intrigueing.
