Great article. He speaks much truth, I liked his way of reasoning.

Yeah I agree. Brilliant article! If only all artists were that smart. The key point IMO is that people who download music are just getting more music than they can afford. They are NOT downloading music that they'd buy anyway. Without the internet they'd simply have less music, not the same music in a different format.

Now THAT is a nice article. Well-reasoned, covering both sides. And pointing in a sane direction.

My interpretation of what he's saying is that the industry has been stupid in the past, not recognizing how new technology represents new markets. And the industry is being stupid again, not recognizing the same thing.

I don't believe he's endorsing or supporting copying. He is saying that the industry claims about how much is being lost due to piracy are spurious at best, which I tend to agree with. Figures lie and liars figure.

I believe the best approach for the industry is to learn how to work with the new technology. Pandora's opened the box; that stuff isn't going to go back in and go away. Let them look for and find the hope.

*edit* Forgot to add that I've bookmarked it so I can come back for chapter 2 next week */edit*

Oh my freaking heck! I cannot believe I was so stupid to look over this! Orson Card is a member of my church, residing in Greensboro, where I attend UNCG! I have talked with him before! He's Mormon folks!

I have a contest to enter where I have to write a short science-fiction article to win some $$$ and I have been contemplating asking his advice on how to get started.
