To buy or not to buy?

Could someone tell me whether or not the plot of NWN is about an ancient god or something? I just read a review that suggested that but was very vague, and I need to know, otherwise my parents probably won't let me get the game. Anyways, any details would be very helpful.

The plot has something to do with an ancient race of beings. Maybe, they believe themselves to be god like but there is certainly no sacrilegious type literature in this game.
