I have the De'Arnise Hold and Lord Roenall has come to see me. When I go off to the asylum, will he have already attacked the keep or can I go and leave from the Asylum and Brynnlaw as I please?

Spoiler.........................................I think that the story will continue even BEFORE you get to Brynnlaw. If not, you may not be able to visit your keep for some days(depends on how fast you make your way through the following chapters), but he will unlikely attack your keep. Although it would be an interesting idea...

Yup, done the fighter stronghold quest several times already, you will get a messenger warning you when it is time. You will also get a messenger before that final stronghold quest telling you that your region has suffered flood. This is one of the smaller stronghold quest before the attack.

All quests are suspended while you are away. However, they start again as soon as the sun shines on you and the continent again.
