scary movies?

well, the exorcist isn't. i watche dit a few years ago and it bored me. i thought i'd sit through it ans see if it lived up to its rep. it didn't. maybe about one scene is genuinely scary, at the start in africa. but nothing more

carrie? that wasn't meant to a comedy was it....

i think stephen king books made movies are usually scary, maybe more creepy though. there's one called perfect student or something. not traditional creepy, but the end, the way that kid is is frightening.

event horizon, thats scary. gory too.

can't say much about the others mentionned as haven't seen them.
but for me VIRUS is damn scary.
and very gory.
so strange, obvious plot but still damn scary.
didn't want to touch anything electronic for a week. was wary.
just incase.

Four of us rented the movie, and none of us had seen it before. We were in a house that none of us knew - a very large creaky old house - shutters on the windows, and a thunderstorm sweeping in over the canefields of Bundaberg.

When the thunder and lighting started to perfectly match the suspense parts of the movie we all started making nervous jokes about it. Then at one point where (from memory) there is suspense building for quite some time, then the surprise, and shriek from the lovely lady - at that same time, the shutter above the couch slammed open, and the flimsy curtain that was draped behind us blew horizontal over our heads. After we all let go of the ceiling, we closed the shutter and watched the rest of the movie (with thunder and lightning crashing about) - we were JUMPY!!! About 15 mins after the movie fiished, the area was blacked out - we had to go to strange beds in the dark over creaky floors and listen to the sounds the house was making for the next several hours.

I have never ever wanted to watch that movie ever again , and no other horror movie has affected me very much since that day.
I would love to have this kind of experience.

A movie titled "Closet Land", because it really makes you think, but its not a horror move, just scary because of what it portrays.

Definitely "The Shining": Jack Nicholson is perfect in the role, the story is great and the director (Mr. Kubrick) was a genius.

IMO what makes it great is the tension and atmosphere - most of the horror movies aren't scary, they are just revolting with that "tornado-in-slaughterhouse" effect.

IT was a horrible film. No way like the great book it came from.

Carrie...well, I got a bit scared at the end. You know the bit.

They made a sequel, but it isn't very good.

The Shining, IMHO, is an excellent film. Not exactly scary, but full of suspense.

Jaws...well, not scary, but jumpy. MUCH better than Pirana (s/p).

Nightmare on Elm Street I scared the heck out of me.

I have never seen IT
