Okay, who the f*ck said that we are all making a big deal outta 9-11. Not to be mean, but honestly, feel some compassion. NY is a great place, the city was awesome, and you just have to spend a day in the city to know how bad it is. Whoever said anything remotely close, spend one day in NYC, and you'll see what "the big production" is.

Sig, I never saw your post, but from the sound of it, the link was the issue. So relax.

Ziroc, I do agree, this is a day of remembering our dead and praying it never happens again.

Like me, I think many people are feeling overwhelmed by the reminders of that day. Sometimes I just can't watch all the shows about the events. It's very depressing I can only watch it in small bursts. An hour tonight was my limit for the day, and I was sniffling through the whole thing.

LS, that's scary! I can't imagine how it must feel, knowing your train could have been the one destroyed.

I whole-heartedly agree with this new rule.

You have every right to do as you know best for the interests of those that were hurt during this ordeal.

Those that cannot be sensitive on the one year anniversary do not belong in our cyber-community.

That is the reason for the remembrance today, Cloudsylph, and the fact is that we ALL feel it, no matter which side of the pond we are on. I find it interesting the reaction of those of you in the isles, how you relate this to your own experiences.

I feel very strongly about sneak attacks, having been in the commissary in frankfurt when the petrol station outside was bombed by red october brigade, or something like that, see how they have faded into history already?

Another closer call during the same period in another location off limits to U.S. servicemen simply reinforced my opine about those who employ the methods that lead to the innocent victims we remember today.

I'm not sure of the type of coverage this story is getting in europe, but from the response of the mininsters from abroad, it seems that many do not want the us to light the fuse we grabbed in the desert mountains of afghanistan.

What other choice is there? It seems that the rhetoric to inflame the type of person capable of suicide/homicide bombings must be itself stopped; even if hiding in the guise of religious education.

That is the point at which this is turned into an anti-war. anti-islam, anti-arab, name the political solecism that fits. Those who argue against the simple things like profiling are paving the way for those things more properly known as "war of annihilation". If it is reduced to us vs. them, then the war is only done when there is no more them, nicht wahr?

I have been searching these many weeks for something that tells me that the radical fringe of islam is something that can be cut out, cauterized, x-rayd out of existence like any other virulent organic organism. The measures required make those opposing profiling look lenient.

What then is the solution? I don't have any but the most drastic solutions to offer, not if I am to have any hope that Amanda, and *ahem* her sisters, Kathleen and Kyleia, may grow up in a world where they do not have to worry about being blown up in the next get-even bombing to take place that day.

(?) :/ I stop here, if I just hijacked, i apologize, i realize that this is something that would properly be under the war forum, Z, what do you think, either let me know, or do what u feel is most expeditious

I missed all this since my computer's currently in the shop getting a new hard drive put in, but I'd just like to mention that this period of time is a very emotional and difficult period for most, if not all, of us. I think the most important thing to remember is that over this period, let's try to show a bit more tact than normal when dicussing September 11. Think of this not necessarily as an attack on your freedom of speech but as a sign of compassion and courtesy to those for whom this day and week has immense importance. Surely that's not too much to ask.

Cheers and no worries.

I'm sorry if what I said upset you or anyone else, and I understand the sensitive nature of today, but I stand by what I said. I may have said it too hastily though, and it may have come off wrong, but I wasn't trying to incite. Of course, I respect your decision to remove the post/thread (although I think I disagree-not sure yet). It is your board afterall, so I can't cry "freedom of speech."

Anyway, there are loads of other politically intense threads that aren't related to Sept. 11, so I can always go there for good debates.

PS: I hadn't belonged to a forum or chat board for a while before this one (joined a couple months ago). I have to say that the diversity and decorum here has greatly impressed me. I have yet to see even a minor flame war (would that be a flame "conflict" or a flame "police action"? ) and the trolls are dealt with swiftly. Kudos to everybody for bringing some maturity to the Net.
No worries Lox, I understand what you mean.

About seeing no 'flamewar posts', It's because the Mods and I rule with an..."Iron" fist when it comes to trolls. I have seen many, many webforums that were once awesome (BGDungeon as an example) but the Webmaster kinda lost interest I think, and didn't watch over the forums, and they were taken over by the 'vile ones' (i.e. Trolls) .

I've run my website starting in 1994 (Before I bought this domain) and it started out as a simple 3D Modeling site with Sci-fi and stuff, then I added Ironworks and the Forum became HUGE, and now, after 2 years of this forum we're still rock'n, and getting better and better, and meeting great new Members like yourself! I've learned SO MUCH from so many people here, and so glad to have met all of you.

The trolls will never be welcomed here, and the Forums will get bigger and better as each new member signs up.

I am a Citizen Soldier.

I proudly serve this Nation to defend it's people and the ideals it was founded on from all threats. I am here to lead my troops when my Nation calls. On that tragic day, few were more anxious, felt so helpless, and heartbroken as me and my platoon as we sat in our armory and waited ... and waited .... to be called. It was very difficult to have to tell my troops that we were ordered NOT to go help our neighbors a short 80 miles away in NY.

While I was not directly affected, I know those that were. I have stood my watch over key bridges and tunnels in the NY/NJ area, and stared in awe at the lights that marked the Towers. The night they turned off those Lights was especially poignent for me, as it was the night my father's own light went out.

In short - I get it. I just got back from LA and saw a lot of hooey out there about the "Big Deal" that everyone was making of this. They didn't get it (those that wrote and reported the pieces). But, in a way, I see their point. Z, I will try to respect your wishes, and not be too strong on this opinion. But I do find it disheartening when Big Media needs this level of tragedy to give the memorials and all. Unfortunatly, things have been very good and prosperous here in America (my wallet doesn't complain though ), and we have grown (as a whole) complaisant(sp?) and myopic. The whole "It didn't happen in MY backyard" attitude. It is saddening that an event of this magnitude is what sends everyone to the memorials and sparks all the "Rememberance" dramas. It is saddening because EVERYDAY there are people putting it on the line to protect us. Everday a fireman is injured rescuing a family. Everyday a policeman is killed fighting crime. Everyday a soldier in some foreign land will never come home for Christmas again. Every month a family gets an insurance check that is far too little in compensation. And it doesn't matter what country either. It happens on all sides of all ponds. And everyday, these events pass with little notice.

So it seems a little fake when the media comes out en force and ad nausium with the coverage and the documentaries. I sometimes wish the reporters would NOT write the story; would NOT do the 6 hour comemerative video. Instead I wish they would do something less vocal, and bow heads .... have a moment of silence .... maybe raise a glass ......

and move on. But never forget. Never forget those who have passed. Never forget the lessons we learned. Never again let prosperity cause us to let our guard down, because the day we do ...... is the day it happens all over again.

*raises a glass* - To those who serve in the protection of others, there is no greater love.

Maybe I'd be less skeptical of the media if everyonce in a while THEY submitted and Bowed to the Meow

PS - Z, you should have a bowing "payshomage" smiley!
