I'm out on Monday for a job interview (this is the 2nd interview - I've already done the technical one). I shall let Mel and Black Assassin look after the bar on Monday if they wish. I shall be seeing my girlfriend after the interview, so I'll be back a bit late
.
If I get this job, my money woes will be sorted (maybe I'll get back into training too)
.
Ciao!

I wonder if telling you 'I am sure you are the perfectly competent man for this job' is not better than 'Good luck' !

Best wishes anyway.

Thanks. I feel a bit prehistoric these days, being a VAX expert, but this place cross-trains onto other things

I am a Software Engineer, but I am more of a generalist than a specialist. I have worked under DOS, Windows and UNIX, I have worked on many kinds of softwares. I can tell you that no knowledge is ever wasted, systems and softwares that seem widely apart have in fact a lot in common. VAX and UNIX are widely related, as I am told (never worked on VAX !), so you should not find getting a new job that much of a problem.

I have some Unix experience, but not much (although PERL is quite nice - tricky but nice). VMS and Vax C/Basic/COBOL are all usable on the newer Alpha boxes. My code is easily maintainable, although my testing needs work on occasion. My Analysis skills are tippety-top and I have had a number of discussions with customer/suppliers on such things.

Lord Shield, you could go for an integration kind of job. I have been working for 12 years now, and I find I do much more consulting and integration missions than purely technical ones, today. I use my technical experience a great deal - it helps me give good advice, and it helps me handle the communication part between the different teams working on a big project. The flexibility you are showing, your good analysis skill and your purely technical knowledge, would be great assets for these kinds of job, I am sure.
