Well I got NWN for a Christmas present and it's a pretty cool game, but I have some questions about it...

1)When creating your character, does age affect anything in the game?
2)There are 2 expansion sets for this game...um...can you play both at the same time if you get them? Also which expansion is better?
3)When hiring a henchman in the game, they are suppose to be 1 level lower then you right or is it the other way around?
4)Is there any patch I should get for this game?
5)What's a fun class to play with? Should I multi-class or stay pure?
6)I really don't get the favored class thing for some of the races...what does it actually affect?

I might have more questions when I need to find out about something, so I'll be posting new questions if I have any. Thanks a lot if you can answer some of them

1) Age is for style only...no effect in the official campaigns.

2) Each expansion campaign is a story in and of itself. I would get both as the first one (SoU) is loosely linked to the second one (HotU) Both expansions are better (storywise) IMO than the original game, they both add ALOT to the game in terms of content.

3)Umm I forget about henchmens level in relation to yours, but you can talk to them if they join your party after you have leveled up and ask them to level up, otherwise henchmen that are in your party level up automatically when you do.

4) Yes, you can click the update button on the splash screen that pops up when you load up the CD or you can goto the BioWare site and get the patch manually. The current version is patch 1.61.
It will be a HUGE download if you only have vanilla NWN installed, but if you buy both the expansions soon they come with all but the latest update.

Welcome to the forums and the wild world of NWN!

What you like to play yourself. If you should multiclass or stay pure depends on the bonuses you want and the penalties you get for it. There's an XP penalty for multiclassing into a nonfavored class. Races have a favored class, which naturally seems to be the class they're best at. This class doesn't count for the XP penalty so you can take that class without penalties. If you multiclass in a non-favored class you get only 80% XP once the difference between the levels in different classes is more than 1. Prestige classes don't count for this. Also every class you take in a crossclass makes your main class weaker in the end so you have to think of the benefits you get.

Multiclassing is very recommended when playing HotU, with 40 levels of one class you will be getting very little each level. IN NWN or SoU the cap is 20 levels and its sometimes worth staying single class, although you can always find an advantage with a more complex build.
Hmmm...I think i'm getting it...so lets just say i'm playing a elven rogue with no expansion sets that's not going to multiclass, he won't be able to become a level 20 rogue since that's not his favored class?

No, you can reach 20th level as an elven rogue, though you may not get enough expirience points to reach 20th level by the end of the official campaign.

The xp penalty applies only by multi-classing in classes that are not favored by your race and that are more than one level apart.

2) NWN OC is pretty much a story of it's own. HotU is an extension of your character from SoU. altho you can start a brand new char, you will be auto levelled up to Lvl 15 when you start it. this is because they encourage you to bring your char from SoU over into HotU.

HotU is by and far the absolute best of them all, followed by SoU. the OC is good, but very vanilla.

/Edit

i would say that you should get SoU before HotU, so that you can have the story unfold the way it's meant to. but then again, HotU is absolutely wonderful, so i can't recommend passing it up, either.

it's gotta be the endings. isn't that what always influences us the most?

i'm tired of ending games as the Saviour of the World. remember PST? every time i think of nameless striding down into the fiery pits to die in the blood wars, i just sit there stunned! so unexpected, so noble and so horrifying. all at once. now there's an ending.

So that means if I don't multiclass a character, then he won't get the XP penalty right? As long as I stay as a pure character, I won't get the penalty even if thats not my character favored class right?
