Question. I haven't finished the freeing D'soto quest, but have gotten in to talk to the Dragon. He doesn't seem to have anything worth talking about. Do I have to do the D'Soto quest first or what?

As far as i know you have to complete the D'Soto quest because you need to get the Cloak of Erathsmedor (or something like that) which you have to give to the Dragon. You must fill the demon to get the cloak from one of his chests.

Aww man. I hate the D'Soto quest. I have all the 5 evils, but I have yet to get the Masque, and I really don't want to. That Snake Temple is a pain in the butt to go through, and I end up going in circles.

I know, Snake Temple is probably the most irritating, except maybe for the mines. Try one of the walkthroughs available, they are very helpful, I eventually resorted to using one of them.
