My neighbor and her roommates all dressed up as characters from the Harry Potter series when the last book came out.

By the way, Uatu, I heard you on the news this morning. I was listening to National Public Radio before leaving for school and they were doing a story about whether China was any more open with the Olympics on the door-step than they were before the IOC gave them the Olympics. The expert that they spoke to was Georgetown University professor and expert on China, Edward Cha.

Uh, I think I am gonna have to go down to Georgetown now and have a little "talk" with "Edward Cha" now...

In fact, there is apparently an army of people named "Edward Cha" in the world now - there is "Edward Cha" the game designer and "Edward Cha" the medical doctor (whose mail I received for a while, since he also went to the same college as me) and so on...

Of course, there can only be One (ahem, that's me)!

So, which character was your neighbor from Harry Potter then? I would choose... Well, I wouldn't look like anyone from the book, though.

She was Cho Chang. I didn't dress up, but if I had, I would have been Hagrid.

There are a whole bunch of people who have stolen my name, too. Their gang seems to be located mostly on the East Coast and the most famous of their lot writes books about programming for MS Windows.

See, the strange thing about our "clones" is that their lives/hobbies are not so different from what we are doing, or what other paths we might have chosen... For example, I have never heard of an "Edward Cha" who is a sports writer or car racer or playboy or whatever. Instead, they seem to be interested in things that I am (at least mildly) interested in (your clones are programmers, as you are, too!). Actually, our clones may even look weirdly like us!

Maybe I should make a Google group of "people named Edward Cha" or something... And then schedule a real-life meeting

That is a very good point. Maybe there is some kind of predestination behind our names...or mayhaps society expects certain things of certain names...

I know of a group for guys named "Bob" who get together every year in Arizona for a weekend long BBQ.

"Hi, Bob."
"Wow, long time no see, Bob!"
"Hey, Bobs!"
"Look at all the Bobs!"

Dang... I wish I could go to that. The name "Bob" is just awesome - I wanted to name my (future) son(s) that, but my wife rejected it...

I found out about this group when I had an academic adviser named Robert that I always called Bob. I was always encouraging him to go, but I'm sure he never did. Shame really.

An honorary member of the Bob group is the founder of the Church of the SubGenius, J.R. "Bob" Dobbs. If you don't know what I'm talking about, do some snooping inline. All hail Bob.

Ah, THAT Bob. Darn, why do THEY get all the cool people (Spongebob, etc.)?

Gotta find some cool Eds to have as honorary members in my brand new Society of Eds... Hmm... Crazy Eddie?

Well, there's the actor Ed Wood - he's pretty cool. And singer, songwriter Eddie Vedder is another candidate. Oh, and we can't forget Edward Scissorhands.

Eh - well, I guess I'll have to settle for them, then... (Ed, Edd, and Eddy are NOT allowed in my group, though! They are BANNED!)
