I find it amusing( or should that be confounding?) that for some countries. Outsiders can know their world location better than the natives. I too flubbed on the religion question, most probably because I am apathetic to it. So only 19 out of 20 for me.

My 14 year old son, who hasn't had a geography class yet but should have learned some geography in Social Studies, scored a 50! My wife scored a 65!

I honestly couldn't believe it. Don't they absorb anything from my nearly constant watching of the History Channel and continuous news coverage? That may be the problem...lol.

I went out and bought a globe, and we're having remedial geography tonight.

that can't be right, 65 is mentally handicapped(technically below 65), 180 would proably put him about the top 250 people in the world, I think stephen Hawking is 196(150 is considered genius i believe might even be lower)[/QUOTE]1 in every 1 million people has an IQ of 180, meaning there are roughly 5 - 6000 people in the world as smart as Clinton (if the figure is accurate).

But now, we have other problems - how many people in Aus know
Who was our SECOND Prime Minister ??
Who is our longest sitting PM to date ??
Who took us into the Vietnam war ??
Who brought us out of it ??
Which Brittish monarch allowed Australia to federate ??

Hell, I`ve heard of people not knowing who Ned Kelly was !!

One of the best ways to learn geograpy is play a board game with labeled countries like Risk, not only do you at least learn some of the major countries (a lot are missing) but you get to see how the shape of lands and water bodies can have an impact on your war stratigies. As well it is fun and if you don't learn much from the game itself it may at least prompt one into finding out more.

I learned my geography from having a father in the navy. He's been to every continent except Europe.

The only countries we even heard mentioned were the UK, the US, Canada, France, Russia and Germany. Nothing of Italy, Austria, Belgium, Switzerland, Norway, Finland etc. And our history teacher didn´t even mention the fact that Germany was at war with Russia when the allies invaded...
Er no. We learn Hilter sezied powers after three tries and because he used the the Jew as a scapegoat for Germany defeat in the last war. But ALL that was covered in a single one hour lesson and never approached again. Then we learned about the Blitz, what women did during the war and that it, no D-day, nothing about the French or Germany restance or the American bringing over the spainish flu. We didn't even get told about the Russian or Japanesse involment or any colonies of England.

Hmm, Gabriel, I may be doing/have done a different board to you but I am doing, for GCSE history, America (From WW2 to Nixon), Russia (the rise of the Bolshevik party to Stalin's death) Britain during WW2 for coursework essays 4,5,6+7 and British women working for coursework essays 1,2,3...and superpower rivalry as our last.

Oh, and Hitler's ascension, as it were, including the Wall Street crash, the hyper-inflation, work-camps, the War from Germany's perspective and the Holocaust.
The course was probably modifed since my day a school (5+ years) or the timing is wrong, back in my day they rotated the test questions every fours years with little change to the content... Or your schools just better
