MagiK, I remember reading an article in National Geo years ago, about some researchers that studied artic wolves. The researchers lived with, or rather lived next to the alpha male and alpha female of a pack. The pack had split up during the summer to for the alpha female to have her puppies. They were at a caribou calving area, so the wolves had plenty of food. The resarchers spent one night and 2 gal. of hot tea "marking" their territory, a 30yd radius around their tents, it took the alpha male 10 minutes to "mark" the other side of the researchers "markings".

I could dig out the Nat. Geo. if you want but I have 25 years of Nat.Geo. to look through
Thanks JD thats all I was askin for was a reference of some sort that I could do the research myself. I didnt mean that I didn't believe neb, I just wanted some kind of focus to my search
That's ok MagiK, I'm glad I don't have to look through all my Nat. Geo's If I remember correctly the artical was in an issue from the early 90's, it has a photo of a wolf jumping on the cover. Like the researchers I too was impressed with the Alpha male's marking ability, and he didn't even stop to drink and refill

Not meaning to pick on you Willow but the notion that we have almost deforested the world is one of my pet peeves, wether it is the rain forest in South America or the Hardwood forests of north America, we are not denuding the earth. The rainforest is doing just fine and it has been publicly revealed that the disappearing south american rainforest was a scam run from california to bilk millions of dollars from millions of people.

Online Sattelite photos will show you that the Amazon Rain Forest is doing just fine, and will show you that there is plenty of Timber left in the North American continent too.

It has been decades since timber companies clear cut and left waste. Timber companies replant thelands that they cut from and do a credible job of managing the lands in their care...when allowed. When they get interfered with then you get wild fires like we have been seeing in the west recently.

It is also known that younger faster growing trees are the ones that produce more oxygen and scrub the most co2 from the air.

Im not sure but I think the wolves could care less if it is old growth or young growth

Just had to express this and like I said, wasn't ment to be offensive ,just informative. Pax!

We are nature's guardians, or caretakers and we have been doing a very poor job.

A word of warning to you all. If I see any more examples of vitriolic personal attacks in this thread, then I will take action. This is a fascinating and deeply complex subject which deserves careful and reasoned debate.

If, for whatever reason you feel personally slighted by anything said in somone's post, take a deep breath and count to ten before firing off an abusive response. If you really think the Tos rules have been broken, then use the "Report ToS Abuse" button at the top of the page.

What we do not tolerate is personal abuse and threatening language on this forum. If you are tempted to post something of that nature here, then I urge you to think again. It will more than likely result in a suspension or ban.

I hope you all read and abide by these guidelines and carry on this debate with the restraint and respect for opposing viewpoints that have characterised the majority of posts so far submitted. It would be a shame to have to close this thread.

Simple - they don't. That was my whole point.

Thanks for the insult, your posts shall be ignored from now on, have a nice day.
Frankly, I was in a hurry this morning (had to get to the shop to finish a motor job), so I didn't stop to elaborate but my intention wasn't to insult.

I was quite serious; my point was that wiccans worship nature in the form of mother gaia. Since you followed some wiccan beliefs, that implied that you think nature is above man.

Except for around the cities, towns, and a few ski resorts BC is as wild as it was when Mammoths walked the earth.
Err, I'm from Ontario.

I believe I should clarify some points. When I say wolves I mean wolves and coyote, with coyote being the preemminent threat. Up here, a lot of people confuse coyote for wolf.

The area I live in is moderately well populated (you have to go north about 30 min to get to real wilderness) with farming a major occupation.

Wolf attacks DO happen, but the coyote attacks are far more common.

Actually, I was using AZ coyotes as a referrent, inferring that they were similar to TX coyotes (similar environment).

I'm familiar with AZ coyote, having been down there to visit with a local guide.

EDIT: something outrageous or blameworthy is fitting btw..I couldn't type it out while I was laughing so hard.
Actually there is a piece of the outrageous or blameworthy that got deleted or removed some how, it continues to give an example of the blameworth or outrageous which indicates that it wouldn't fit where that word was being used.

Here is the actual definition, the dictionary page used symbols that made parts of the text invisible....

2 a : something very difficult or dangerous (the traffic was murder) b : something outrageous or blameworthy (getting away with murder)

Yes you are right, it is a bit anal of me to stick to the correct terms of particular words (like niggardly) But what can I say? It is a particular pet peeve of mine when people anthropamorphize animals ... go figure.

And lest anyone think I am a heartless bastard, I do care about animals and treating them with kindness respect. I owned several dogs as I grew up, and had to put two of them down my self after one got hit by a car and the other tangled with a porcupine. I always made sure to do my best to kill instantly when hunting and actually felt ill when I messed up and the animal suffered before I could finish the job.
