I think we may have mentioned that problem before, but never really resolved it, nor has anyone really considered doing something about it. I think that to help people like newbies out we would make the title of the thread like this example>

The Mysterious Modding Mage (Open)
or
The Mysterious Modding Mage (Closed)

Just an idea. Not exactly what should be done, but it would be better than nothing!

There are some 'closed' adventures, where you aren't allowed to enter. You can still pop in and post something without angering the players, but don't expect to be allowed to play along (unless you've posted to ask permission to participate )
Clan threads are a bit like that, but here non-members can make an appearance every once in a while, to say hi to a clan member, or to challenge someone from the clan for example.

But most of the threads are open, and you can jsut enter and play along. Almost always, the very first post will let you know if the thread is open or not, if it says nothing about it assume it is open. But each time you aren't sure, just ask when you enter the thread

I believe Cloudy's still working on a set of guidelines for players and GM's, but things are different from game to game. Best thing is to start with a single open thread and just get some practice by looking at how others play and experimenting a bit yourself

I wouldn't worry too much Epona, new RPG'ing adventures are being made all the time, so just jump in and apply to the DM for it when they write the thread about it being made.
Also, you could start up an adventure yourself, then no-one can give you a swift kick up the rear.

Thanks to those with constructive suggestions or real concerns.

BOOOHISS on those who are spamming this thread. I do NOT want to see any more spam..this is alot to wade through and having been sick, then on jury duty and now actively trying to catch up, I'm afraid Cloudy is not in the mood to wade much.

LAST CALL! If you have some legit concerns or suggestions, post now. I'm reading and consolidating and will be posting basic rules/guidelines soon. They will be considered a work in progress and will be improved upon added too and even edited as we go.

Cloudy

I like what DragonMage said in one of these threads...she said to have a thread devoted entirely to our playable characters, where we could go to and check our PC in at the door, and then, go in and edit it to give that PC items or abilities , etc. In That would prevent people from making up stuff on the spot and really help us all out. If not a whole thread, then at least at the beginning of a game.

Yes...it does work rather well in keeping everything straight with the characters.

On a couple other boards where I RP, they do this. Of course, the boards aren't as big as this, so they have one thread for character postings and joining requests and one thread for the adventure. Here, though, it would be sufficient to post your basic personality (I like knowing my compatriot sorcerer is insane ) along with stats and special items or special abilities (and even your level if it's closer to D&D play) at the very beginning of the story thread, then everyone can look back and say: Heyyyy! You can't do that! ... or ... Um..you know, a Lawful Good character wouldn't do that, mind editing your post? IF it's needed at all.

That's part of what I covered earlier in the thread.

Hey DM,

I know of the board(s) you are talking about and that set up isn't feasible for IW. I've talked to the big Cahuna here and for administrative and logistic reasons he doesn't want that many divisions/boards so we will make do with what we have so all our members, Larry and I will just have to be more vigilant.

But we will set up guidelines that can help. I'll be working on that now.

Anyone got a cure for a common cold and headache handy?

ah...OK, Cloudy...darn..that would have helped, too. :S

And yes, you know of two of the boards I play on.

As to your cold...try feverfew and willowbark. Plus apple juice.

Thanks DM! I hate stuffy noses... blech!

Yes, we'll impose a similar division and character postings here. I will see some ORDER! Or despair of trying..
